Gone are the \u2018tactical,\u2019 reactive days of Formula 1; CEO Stefano Domenicali has a much different vision for the future.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He\u2019s advocating for a more \u2018strategic\u2019 vision to carry F1 into its newest era of regulations and its freshly signed Concorde Agreement.<\/p>\n

New F1 Concorde Agreement should focus on \u2018strategic\u2019 goals<\/p>\n

When Stefano Domenicali announced that he had signed a five-year extension to his contract as Formula 1 CEO, many were quick to praise him for his vision, and to express their delight that he\u2019d be leading the sport through its next era of racing.<\/p>\n

Between the new regulations coming into effect during the F1 2026 season and the signing of the latest Concorde Agreement, Domenicali\u2019s vision will be critical to growing the sport.<\/p>\n

In a new interview with Motorsport.com,<\/strong> Domenicali explained that the Concorde Agreement has settled the \u201ceconomic\u201d elements of Formula 1\u2019s future, but that its governance and its ability to take on a changing sociopolitical atmosphere remain the biggest question marks.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe economic aspects are settled,\u201d Domenicali said. \u201cWhat remains is the governance part, which also involves the FIA alongside the teams.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s another key step because it guarantees regulatory stability.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne thing we want to change is our approach: we need to be more strategic and less tactical on key issues affecting our sport. This requires FIA and team involvement.\u201d<\/p>\n

What\u2019s the difference? Tactical planning is often reactive, with an emphasis on short-term changes. Strategic planning, on the other hand, focuses more on long-term goals; it\u2019s the \u2018bigger picture\u2019 element that needs to be in place before any tactical response can bring that picture to life.<\/p>\n

\u2018Strategy\u2019 was a word that popped up again and again in the interview, with Domenicali hearkening back to a 2023 interview where he outlined his \u201cstrategic vision for F1\u2019s future.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s exactly what\u2019s now emerging,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn Bahrain, we had a meeting with the FIA and all current and future engine manufacturers, including GM. I believe some pushed too hard. As future topics were being discussed, someone tried to push for an extension of the current regulations.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat would have been totally wrong. We must respect those who\u2019ve invested heavily in this complex and costly project \u2014 changing the rules now would send the wrong message. Questioning previous decisions on power units would be a huge mistake.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, this strategic thinking requires keeping the finger on the pulse of racing action and fan sentiment.<\/p>\n

As Domenicali explains, \u201cHaving one dominant team for too long is bad for everyone.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur sport is growing incredibly and has become a global benchmark. We should be proud of that \u2014 but also cautious.\u201d<\/p>\n

And that caution warrants strategic thinking as Formula 1 prepares to enter its newest regulatory set.<\/p>\n
