Liverpool boss Arne Slot is feeling the pressure after Liverpool stumbled to yet another loss on Saturday. Slot, 47, enjoyed a dream first year at the helm at Anfield after succeeding Jurgen Klopp<\/a> by guiding the Reds to Premier League glory<\/a>.<\/p>\n However, the former Feyenoord manager has endured a difficult start to the 2025-26 campaign. Saturday’s crushing 3-0 home defeat against Nottingham Forest<\/a> has now sparked fresh concern for his future in the job.<\/p>\n To make matters worse, Liverpool’s rotten run comes after spending \u00a3450million on their squad in the summer. Saturday’s defeat extended Liverpool<\/a>\u2019s woeful run this season to six defeats in their last seven matches<\/a> across all competitions, having lost 3-0<\/a> to Manchester City<\/a> prior to November\u2019s international break.<\/p>\n With all eyes now on Slot, the Dutchman has been given a reality check when it comes to his position in the Anfield hot seat by several pundits. In other news, former Liverpool boss Klopp has once again been linked with a return<\/a> to the Reds.<\/p>\n Slot sack stance<\/p>\n Scrutiny is naturally growing on Slot<\/a>. They have simply been undone. Whether it\u2019s a crisis I don\u2019t know, it\u2019s certainly a major problem for the manager to go six defeats from seven. Unthinkable.”<\/p>\n “I don\u2019t think you can win the league one year and get sacked the next,” the former Arsenal<\/a> defender added. “It\u2019s remarkable what we are seeing with Liverpool. Their fall from grace and to lose this many games at the start of the season, they are eight points behind top spot, it is unthinkable really from this time last season.”<\/p>\n Jamie Redknapp<\/a>, a former Liverpool midfielder, echoed similar sentiments on Sky Sports<\/a> in the aftermath of Forest’s victory. He said: “I look at Liverpool now, this is what I expected to happen last season.<\/p>\n “After Jurgen Klopp leaving the club I thought it would have some negative effect on the team. There wasn\u2019t. They did something absolutely extraordinary and won the league.<\/p>\n “Right now, I think it\u2019s a time for patience because they\u2019ll be people, pundits, everyone going crazy, [saying] ‘Sack the manager’. [Be] calm, take your time, make sure you assess it, it\u2019s been the most difficult pre-season you can imagine for those players.”<\/p>\n Klopp made favourite to return<\/p>\n The pressure on Slot is perhaps being compounded by the looming spectre of former Reds boss Klopp. The German icon is currently the bookies’ favourite to replace the Dutchman should Liverpool owners pull the trigger on Slot’s tenure.<\/p>\n Klopp is as short as 2\/1 to be named the next Liverpool manager with the likes of Sky Bet and Paddy Power, while there are other names in the frame such as Crystal Palace<\/a> manager Oliver Glasner<\/a>. Bournemouth<\/a> boss Andoni Iraola, Aston Villa’s Unai Emery<\/a> and Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann are also in contention, according to bookmakers. Despite Klopp’s favouritism for the role, there is no suggestion Liverpool’s owners are looking to make a change at this time.<\/p>\n Klopp’s comments on a possible Anfield return back in October caused something of a storm. Speaking to the Diary of a CEO podcast<\/a> and asked if he would ever return, he replied: “I said I would never coach a different team in England. So that means if, (I did return to England) then it\u2019s Liverpool. Yeah, theoretically it\u2019s possible.”<\/p>\n When quizzed what it would take for him to come back to Anfield, he replied: “I don\u2019t even know exactly. I love what I do now. I don\u2019t miss coaching. I don\u2019t. I do coach but it\u2019s just different, it\u2019s not players.<\/p>\n “I don\u2019t want to die in the dressing room. It\u2019s these kind of things. I\u2019m 58. From your perspective that might be old, but from other perspectives, it\u2019s not that old.<\/p>\n “That means I could make a decision in a few years. I don\u2019t know. Do I have to make a decision today? I will not coach again, but thank God I do not have to do that, I can just see what the future brings.”<\/p>\n The iconic former Reds manager has been working as the Global Head of Soccer at Red Bull’s football franchise<\/a> and recently joined an expert group helping the German Football League (DFL)<\/a>.<\/p>\n He also gave his backing to Slot, adding: “He\u2019s a super good guy.
