This eventually snowballed to the point where practically every tentpole title from the Redmond firm is now launching on PlayStation.

And for the teams inside Xbox, this is a welcome change.

Speaking with 404 Media about Microsoft’s ever-changing strategy and its alleged pursuit of 30% profit margins, the Bloomberg journalist shed a little light on how said teams are feeling about the transition to PS5.

He said:

“A lot of these [Xbox first-party games] are put on Game Pass, which means they’re not selling as much because people can just subscribe and get them for much cheaper than they would if they bought them. That complicates the math for a lot of these studios. A lot of game studios are now actually thrilled that they get to release their games on PlayStation, which is a recent phenomenon that’s been happening in the last year or so.”

Flagship titles like Gears of War Reloaded and Forza Horizon 5 released on the PS5 this year and sold extremely well, justifying Microsoft’s strategy and culminating in the announcement of Halo: Campaign Evolved earlier this month.

Halo Studios said as part of that announcement that the future of Halo is on PlayStation, insinuating that all upcoming instalments will launch on Sony’s system.

While Microsoft has committed to future hardware, sales of the Xbox Series X|S have flatlined, while software sales within its ecosystem have been impeded by Game Pass.

With the top brass at Microsoft reportedly demanding higher profit margins in the aftermath of its Bethesda and Activision acquisitions, the company has more or less been forced to bring its games to PS5, where full-price software sales remain high.

[source youtube.com]

See Also

As the Editor of Push Square, Sammy has over 15 years of experience analysing the world of PlayStation, from PS3 through PS5 and everything in between.
