{"id":590374,"date":"2025-11-24T07:58:13","date_gmt":"2025-11-24T07:58:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/590374\/"},"modified":"2025-11-24T07:58:13","modified_gmt":"2025-11-24T07:58:13","slug":"farage-urged-to-explain-conspiracy-theories-linked-to-antisemitism-he-voiced-in-us-media-nigel-farage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/590374\/","title":{"rendered":"Farage urged to explain conspiracy theories linked to antisemitism he voiced in US media | Nigel Farage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Nigel Farage is facing calls to explain why he repeatedly aired tropes and conspiracy theories associated with antisemitism during interviews, after claims the Reform UK leader used racist language in his teens.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">In appearances on US TV shows and podcasts earlier in his political career, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/2019\/may\/12\/farage-criticised-for-using-antisemitic-themes-to-criticise-soros\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Farage discussed supposed plots by bankers to create a global government<\/a>, citing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/business\/goldmansachs\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Goldman Sachs<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/bilderberg\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Bilderberg group<\/a> and the financier <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/profile\/georgesoros\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">George Soros<\/a> as threats to democracy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">These included six guest slots on the web TV show of the disgraced far-right US conspiracy theorist Alex Jones. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2025\/oct\/14\/alex-jones-supreme-court-appeal-rejected\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jones was successfully sued by bereaved parents<\/a> after claiming the 2012 Sandy Hook elementary school massacre was faked.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">During one interview with Jones in 2018, Farage argued that \u201cglobalists\u201d were trying to engineer a war with Russia \u201cas an argument for us all to surrender our national sovereignty and give it up to a higher global level\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Farage also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/2019\/dec\/09\/farage-appeared-with-antisemitic-pastor-on-us-web-radio-show\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">appeared six times on the web radio show of Rick Wiles<\/a>, a far-right, antisemitic American pastor. Here, topics included whether central bankers would soon start to appoint leaders of the UK and US \u2013 an idea Farage did not challenge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/2019\/may\/06\/nigel-farage-under-fire-alleged-antisemitic-tropes-far-right-us-talkshow-alex-jones\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">When the Guardian first reported these discussions<\/a> in 2019, groups including the <a href=\"https:\/\/bod.org.uk\/\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Board of Deputies of British Jews<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/cst.org.uk\/\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Community Security Trust<\/a>, a charity providing support to the Jewish community in the UK, called on Farage to repudiate such ideas, many of which are associated with far-right and antisemitic conspiracy theories.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">However, Farage never commented. The only response came from a spokesperson for the Brexit party, which Farage led at the time, calling the criticisms \u201cmanufactured\u201d and \u201cpathetic\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Nigel Farage being interviewed by Alex Jones in 2018. Photograph: Infowars<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">In the wake of testimony from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/2025\/nov\/22\/nigel-farage-racist-past-who-is-telling-truth-schooldays\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">20 people who claim they either witnessed or were victims of abusive or racist behaviour by Farage<\/a> at Dulwich college in the late 1970s and early 1980s, MPs and others have called on Farage to explain his subsequent statements, which date from 2009 to 2018.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/ng-interactive\/2025\/nov\/18\/deeply-shocking-nigel-farage-faces-fresh-claims-of-racism-and-antisemitism-at-school\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">School contemporaries of Farage said he used racist terms<\/a> of abuse, made comments such as like \u201cHitler was right\u201d, and \u201cGas them\u201d, and sang racist songs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Spokespeople for Farage and Reform rejected the claims as completely untrue, saying the passage of time made accurate recollections impossible, and questioned why people were making the allegations now.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Christine Jardine, the Liberal Democrat MP who is vice chair of the all-party parliamentary group against antisemitism, said: \u201cNigel Farage clearly has aspirations for high office. He said: \u201cThey paint a picture of a man who has continued to peddle conspiracy theories and tropes, and who has gone on to build a political career by spreading division and hate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cNigel Farage needs to explain why he said these things and whether he still subscribes to these conspiracy theories.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Zack Polanski, the leader of the Green party in England and Wales, said: \u201cWe can judge Farage not just by the words he, allegedly, shouted as a child, but by the words and actions he has chosen to broadcast as an adult.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cThroughout his career he has chosen to echo conspiracy theories through the language of the far right and antisemites. This is deplorable. But will he ever take any responsibility for anything he says or does?
