{"id":590794,"date":"2025-11-24T13:09:15","date_gmt":"2025-11-24T13:09:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/590794\/"},"modified":"2025-11-24T13:09:15","modified_gmt":"2025-11-24T13:09:15","slug":"two-peers-suspended-from-house-of-lords-for-breaking-lobbying-rules-house-of-lords","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/590794\/","title":{"rendered":"Two peers suspended from House of Lords for breaking lobbying rules | House of Lords"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Two long-serving peers are to be suspended from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/lords\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">House of Lords<\/a> after a parliamentary watchdog ruled that they had broken lobbying rules.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Richard Dannatt, a former head of the British army, and David Evans (Lord Evans of Watford), were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/uk-news\/2025\/jun\/21\/peer-richard-dannatt-lobbied-government-to-fund-factory-bid-he-was-helping-documents-reveal\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">filmed breaking the rules<\/a> in undercover footage recorded by the Guardian.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Lord Dannatt is to be suspended for four months after he was found to have broken the rules, having offered to secure meetings with ministers for a potential commercial client who wanted to lobby the government.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">He was secretly filmed telling undercover reporters he could make introductions to ministers and that he would \u201cmake a point of getting to know\u201d the best-placed politician.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">After he was exposed in the undercover footage, the Guardian uncovered three further cases in which he had provided parliamentary services in return for payment.
