This analysis is based on two Pew Research Center surveys:<\/p>\n
The primary survey is our National Survey of Latinos, conducted Oct. 6 to 16, 2025,<\/strong> among a sample of 8,046 U.S. adults. The sample included 4,923 Hispanics, with 1,125 respondents who are members of the Center\u2019s American Trends Panel (ATP) and 3,798 respondents who are member of SSRS\u2019s Opinion Panel. The survey also included 3,114 non-Hispanic ATP members. Here are the questions<\/a> used for this report, the detailed responses<\/a> and the methodology<\/a> for the October survey.<\/p>\n The second is a survey of U.S. adults, conducted Sept. 22 to 28, 2025,<\/strong> among a sample of 3,445 U.S. adults, including 629 Hispanics. Everyone who took part in this survey is a member of the ATP. Here are the questions<\/a> and detailed responses<\/a> used for presidential approval in this report, and here are the questions<\/a> and detailed responses<\/a> used for views of the U.S. economy in this report. Here is the methodology<\/a> for the September survey.<\/p>\n Both surveys were conducted in English and Spanish. Respondents were recruited through national, random sampling of residential addresses. This kind of recruitment gives nearly all U.S. adults a chance of selection.<\/p>\n Interviews were conducted either online or by telephone with a live interviewer. The survey is weighted to be representative of the U.S. adult population by gender, race, ethnicity, partisan affiliation, education, presidential vote (among voters) and other factors. Read more about the ATP\u2019s methodology<\/a>.<\/p>\n Terminology<\/p>\n The terms Hispanic<\/strong> and Latino<\/strong> are used interchangeably in this report.<\/p>\n The term immigrants<\/strong> refers to respondents born outside the 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia or Puerto Rico. When the data is available, this group also includes people born outside these places to parents born outside these places. The terms immigrant and foreign born<\/strong> are used interchangeably.<\/p>\n The term U.S. born<\/strong> refers to respondents born in the 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia or Puerto Rico. When the data is available, this group also includes those born elsewhere to at least one parent who was born in the 50 U.S. states, D.C. or Puerto Rico.<\/p>\n Second generation<\/strong> refers to respondents who are U.S. born with at least one immigrant parent.<\/p>\n Third or higher generation<\/strong> refers to respondents who are U.S. born with both parents who are U.S. born.<\/p>\n Throughout this report, Democrats<\/strong> are respondents who identify politically with the Democratic Party or who identify as independent but lean toward the Democratic Party. Similarly, Republicans<\/strong> are those who identify politically with the Republican Party and those who identify as independent but lean toward the Republican Party.<\/p>\n Validated voters<\/strong> are adult citizens who told us in a postelection survey that they voted in a given general election and have a record of voting in a commercial voter file. Trump voters<\/strong> are validated voters who self-reported that they voted for Republican Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election. Harris voters<\/strong> are validated voters who self-reported that they voted for Democrat Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.<\/p>\n Nonvoters<\/strong> are those who did not vote in 2024 but were eligible to do so. <\/p>\n References to those who are employed<\/strong> or working<\/strong> include respondents who are currently working full time or part time for pay, and these terms are used interchangeably. References to those who are unemployed<\/strong> include respondents who currently are not working for pay. It does not include those who are unable to work due to a disability or who are retired.<\/p>\n Latinos have grown pessimistic in the year since the 2024 presidential election. Most say their situation in the United States has worsened. And as Donald Trump\u2019s second term unfolds, Latinos are increasingly critical of his job performance and his administration\u2019s immigration and economic policies \u2013 two key issues for Latino voters<\/a> in last year\u2019s election.<\/p>\n Still, Latinos\u2019 views about Trump and his administration are sharply divided by how they voted in the 2024 election: Those who voted for Trump express strong support for the president and his policies, while those who voted for Kamala Harris hold deeply negative views.<\/p>\n For instance, 81% of Latino Trump voters approve of the president\u2019s job performance, though this share has declined from 93% at the start of his current term. Meanwhile, nearly all Latino Harris voters disapprove of the president. These patterns mirror those among the general U.S. public<\/a>.<\/p>\n Trump has introduced major changes in economic and immigration policy since returning to office. On the economy, the administration\u2019s tariff policies<\/a> and the tax and budget bill known as the \u201cBig Beautiful Bill\u201d<\/a> are among its signature actions. On immigration, his administration has expanded efforts to detain and deport immigrants living in the country illegally<\/a> while using more aggressive tactics<\/a>.<\/p>\n In the 2024 election, Hispanic voters were among the groups with the largest shifts toward Trump since 2016<\/a>. Nearly half (48%) backed him in 2024 \u2013 up from 36% in 2020 and 28% in 2016. <\/p>\n Today, Latinos are the nation\u2019s second largest racial or ethnic group, accounting for one-in-five Americans. They are also among the fastest-growing demographic groups<\/a> in the United States, making up an increasing share of the country\u2019s population<\/a>, electorate<\/a> and labor force<\/a>.<\/p>\n This report explores Latinos\u2019 perspectives on their situation in the country today and the second Trump administration. It is primarily based on Pew Research Center\u2019s bilingual National Survey of Latinos, conducted in October 2025 with a nationally representative sample of 4,923 Latino adults.<\/p>\n How Latinos see their situation in the country<\/p>\n Hispanics are pessimistic about their standing in America. About two-thirds (68%) say the situation of U.S. Hispanics today is worse than it was a year ago, while 9% say it\u2019s better and 22% say it\u2019s about the same.<\/p>\n This is the first time that most Hispanics say their situation has worsened in nearly two decades of Pew Research Center Hispanic surveys. When we asked this question in 2019, late during Trump\u2019s first administration, 39% said the situation of U.S. Hispanics had worsened and in 2021, 26% said this.<\/p>\n When asked about how the Trump administration\u2019s policies impact Hispanics overall, far more say they harm Hispanics than help them (78% vs. 10%). These views are more critical than in 2019, when 69% said the first Trump administration\u2019s policies were harmful to Hispanics.<\/p>\n And on how the Trump presidency shapes their feeling of personal belonging in America, more than half of Latinos (55%) say they have serious concerns about their place in the U.S., up from 48% in 2019.<\/p>\n How 2024 Latino voters view their place in the U.S.<\/p>\n Latinos who voted for Trump and Harris in 2024 have sharply different assessments on their place in the country.<\/p>\n For more on how Latinos view the president and his impact on Latinos, visit Chapter 1<\/a>. For more on how they view Latinos\u2019 current and future situation in the country, visit Chapter 2<\/a>.<\/p>\n How Hispanics see their personal finances and the economy<\/p>\n U.S. Hispanics saw an increase in median household income and a decrease in their poverty rate between 2023 and 2024. Still, majorities of Hispanics rated their financial situation negatively in 2024. And ahead of the presidential election, most were highly concerned about the cost of living<\/a> and cited the economy as a very important issue to their vote.<\/p>\n The October 2025 survey finds that most Hispanics continue to view their financial situation negatively. Nearly two-thirds (63%) say their finances are in only fair or poor shape. In contrast, 37% say they\u2019re in excellent or good shape, a slight improvement from last year when 30% gave this rating.<\/p>\n The survey also finds that roughly one-in-three Latinos have struggled to pay for each of the following in the last year:<\/p>\n Notably, about half of Latinos (48%) say they\u2019ve struggled to afford at least one of these three necessities.<\/p>\n And Latinos who work full time are just as likely as Latinos who are unemployed to say they\u2019ve struggled to afford food, medical care and housing. <\/p>\n Despite these difficulties, half of Hispanics (50%) expect their and their family\u2019s financial situation to improve over the coming year, nearly the same share who said this in 2024 (51%).<\/p>\n Additionally, some Latinos have had positive financial experiences in the last year:<\/p>\n When asked about the overall U.S. economy, Hispanics\u2019 views are mostly negative and unchanged from 2024. Some 78% say the economy is in only fair or poor shape, while 22% say it\u2019s in excellent or good shape. In 2024, 76% gave the economy a negative rating.\u00a0<\/p>\n Many Latinos also have a negative outlook on the economy\u2019s future. About half (49%) say the nation\u2019s economy will worsen over the next year, up substantially from 2024. For more on their views of the nation\u2019s economy, visit Chapter 4<\/a>.<\/p>\n Latinos\u2019 experiences and views of immigration policy<\/p>\n Today, 44% of Latinos adults are immigrants, numbering 21.1 million, according to U.S. Census Bureau estimates of the 2024 American Community Survey<\/a>.<\/p>\n Since the first day of Donald Trump\u2019s second term<\/a>, immigration has been a key part of his administration\u2019s agenda, including broader efforts to deport immigrants who are living in the country illegally.<\/p>\n Amid this heightened enforcement<\/a>, 52% of Latino adults say they worry a lot or some that they, a family member or a close friend could be deported. This is up from 42% in March<\/a>. Majorities of younger adults, Harris voters, immigrants and those with family origins in Central America now express this worry.<\/p>\n Additionally, a majority of Latinos (59%) say they have seen or heard of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids or arrests in their community in the past six months.<\/p>\n Immigration enforcement has also impacted Latinos\u2019 daily routines:<\/p>\n Latinos are increasingly critical of the administration\u2019s approach to deportations. About seven-in-ten (71%) say it is doing too much when it comes to deporting immigrants living in the country illegally, up from 56% in March.<\/p>\n In 2023, the vast majority of Latino adults in the U.S. (82%) had full legal status as U.S.-born citizens, immigrants with naturalized citizenship, or lawful immigrants without citizenship, according to Pew Research Center estimates. Meanwhile, 18% of Latino adults were unauthorized immigrants, a group that includes those without full legal status<\/a>.<\/p>\n For more on how Latinos view the Trump administration\u2019s immigration policy, visit Chapter 5<\/a>. For more on how immigration enforcement is impacting Latinos\u2019 lives, visit Chapter 6<\/a>.<\/p>\n How have Hispanic Republicans\u2019 views changed under the second Trump administration?<\/p>\n Overall, Hispanic Republicans\u2019 and Republican leaners\u2019 assessments of the administration are mixed. Importantly, Republicans and Trump voters are not the same, though these groups largely overlap.<\/p>\n The share of Hispanic Republicans who say economic conditions in the country are excellent or good has roughly doubled since last year from 19% to 40%. And 39% of Hispanic Republicans say that since Trump took office, his policies have improved economic conditions, higher than the shares who say the policies made conditions worse (31%) or haven\u2019t had an effect (29%).<\/p>\n At the same time, Latino Republicans have soured on Trump\u2019s immigration policy. About half (47%) now say the administration is doing too much when it comes to deportations, up from 28% in March. Still, the share of Latino Republicans who say they worry that they or someone close to them could be deported is little changed since Trump returned to office (35% say this today).<\/p>\n More broadly, a majority of Hispanic Republicans (55%) now say Trump\u2019s policies have been harmful to Hispanics overall, up from 38% who said the same late in Trump\u2019s first term.<\/p>\n Latino Republicans hold less favorable views of Trump than his 2024 Latino voters<\/p>\n Hispanic Republicans\u2019 views of the president are not as positive as the views of Hispanics who voted for him in 2024.<\/p>\n![\"A](\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/RE_2024.11.24_latinos-trump-policies_0-01.png\")
