January is not that far away for Leeds United<\/a> and as a result, transfer plans are surely starting to be formulated under the 49ers.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Six games stand in the way for Leeds and the January window, where the landscape could shift drastically at Elland Road<\/a>.<\/p>\n

By the new year, the 49ers will know they need to make correct transfer decisions to improve our chances of staying in the Premier League.<\/p>\n

Ironically, the best goalscorer at the moment on Leeds\u2019 books isn\u2019t even playing at Elland Road. It\u2019s Joe Gelhardt out on loan at Hull City<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It came as no shock that he wasn\u2019t part of the plans in the summer, and he headed back to Hull under new management. He\u2019s now shining in a new right-wing role<\/a> where goals are flowing on a weekly basis.<\/p>\n

His strike at QPR on Saturday was his eighth of the campaign along with an assist, seeing him hit the best form of his career away from Elland Road.<\/p>\n

United do hold a recall clause in his contract<\/a> that will become active during the January window. Should they wish to bring him back to West Yorkshire, there\u2019s an opportunity to do so.<\/p>\n

For Gelhardt, he\u2019s undoubtedly buzzing to be playing regularly in a role and side that suits his strengths down to a tee.<\/p>\n

So, as a result, he\u2019s not even considering a recall to team up with United in the Premier League. Sky Sports\u2019 Simeon Gholam<\/a> asked the forward if there\u2019s been any contact or plan to cut his loan short.<\/p>\n

\u201cI got asked this the other day. I haven\u2019t heard anything from Leeds, to be fair, about a recall,\u201d Gelhardt said. \u201cThere might be a recall option, but I leave that up to my agent. <\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t really focus on that. I\u2019m just focused on playing football. At the minute, I\u2019m a Hull City player so I\u2019m proud to wear the shirt whenever I put it on and I\u2019ll continue to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Joe Gelhardt could have been the answer for Leeds United if they developed him properly<\/p>\n

In a team trying to be physical and direct, someone like Gelhardt could have been a great option this season.<\/p>\n

However, he\u2019s not the answer for us right now. It\u2019s one thing thriving in the Championship (in what looks to be a weak division overall). But, it\u2019s another doing it in a high-stakes Premier League relegation scrap. <\/p>\n

Gelhardt could well have been an option for us right now if he was developed more effectively in the past few seasons, but we\u2019ve wasted him.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m sure there\u2019ll be a more definitive decision made in the summer when his loan ends. For now, you can\u2019t blame Gelhardt for not even entertaining a recall now.<\/p>\n
