Animal welfare activists have spoken of their shock after discovering a pregnant cat had been tied up and dumped alive in a binbag and thrown down a steep hillside on the edge of Bristol.<\/p>\n

The cat was discovered by a local resident on Sunday evening but is thought to have been dumped that morning.<\/p>\n

The North Somerset-based Little Paws Rescue<\/a> charity, which runs an animal sanctuary near Bristol, said they were called to the scene after it was found that the cat had died inside the bag.<\/p>\n

The incident happened at a woodland footpath known as \u2018The 100 Steps\u2019, which connects Hanham with the Conham River Path.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for Little Paws<\/a> said they were shocked by what they found, and described it as \u2018one of the most horrific things we\u2019ve dealt with. \u201cEarlier this morning a black bag was found down some steps in a woodland in Hanham Bristol,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a well-known busy walking route called the 100 steps so lots of people would have seen it today with the warm weather<\/a>. Instead, not one person decided to investigate until a kind lady was brave enough to this evening, after she saw a trail of litter from the bag where she sadly discovered a deceased cat and a dirty litter tray with used litter covering her.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we arrived though we were shocked to see she was heavily pregnant and was clearly alive when she was in the bag.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe had been kicked or thrown down 30 to 40 concrete steps before being left in the rubbish bag injured, terrified and then in labour. She had tried to claw her way out but was too weak and had no oxygen left, so horrifically died along with her unborn kittens. She of course wasn\u2019t chipped either,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Little Paws said they would be reporting the incident to the authorities today, and an investigation is getting under way.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are absolutely sickened that someone would do this,\u201d the spokesperson said. \u201cIf anyone knows the person who did this, recognises the cat or has any information please message us.<\/p>\n

“We will be reporting to authorities.
