{"id":592784,"date":"2025-11-25T12:18:13","date_gmt":"2025-11-25T12:18:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/592784\/"},"modified":"2025-11-25T12:18:13","modified_gmt":"2025-11-25T12:18:13","slug":"disabled-birmingham-artist-named-charitys-person-of-the-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/592784\/","title":{"rendered":"Disabled Birmingham artist named charity&#8217;s person of the year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">An artist from Birmingham has been named &#8220;person of the year&#8221; by a national disability charity.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Paul Hickin, 56, was one of the first people to move into a residential service run by the Sense charity in the city 30 years ago.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Mr Hickin, who has a learning disability and is deaf, received the accolade at the 2025 Sense Awards after illustrating a children&#8217;s book and painting a picture that was gifted to the organisation&#8217;s retiring chief executive.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Paul is a kind, caring and thoughtful person, as well as a gifted artist, and he richly deserves to be named Sense&#8217;s Person of the Year,&#8221; said Eve Holloway, care manager for Sense in Birmingham.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"An artist from Birmingham has been named &#8220;person of the year&#8221; by a national disability charity.
