Wolves couldn\u2019t get a result in their first outing under Rob Edwards, and pundit Richard Keys is concerned. <\/strong><\/p>\n

There were plenty of lessons from Edwards\u2019 first game as Wolves boss<\/a>, but the most important thing \u2014 the result \u2014 didn\u2019t go his way. <\/p>\n

Wolves<\/a> weren\u2019t awful at the weekend. Some players looked revitalised under a new coach and some moments gave us encouragement, but the 2-0 scoreline was a fair reflection of proceedings.<\/p>\n

It would have been great to even avoid a loss at Molineux<\/a> on Saturday, and Keys reckons it\u2019s a missed opportunity.<\/p>\n

There hasn\u2019t been much to celebrate at Wolves this season, but there was a notable shift in mood at the weekend, with at least the tiniest bit of anticipation seeping in ahead of Edwards\u2019 first game. <\/p>\n

And it\u2019s exactly that anticipation which Keys thinks would have been invaluable to build upon with a positive result. Instead, it\u2019s more worry. <\/p>\n

As Keys writes on his blog<\/a>: \u201cWolves look dead in the water \u2013 despite changing coaches, which is why it\u2019s always a tricky decision to make. I think they\u2019re too far back.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey needed to beat Palace to have a sniff of a chance and capitalise on the \u2018feel good\u2019 factor Rob Edwards arrived with.\u201d <\/p>\n

He might be right, but in normal circumstances, Palace isn\u2019t a team Wolves would expect to beat. Is Keys putting too much importance on one fixture?<\/p>\n

The manager doesn\u2019t think so. Edwards released a statement after the Palace defeat<\/a>, saying they need to build confidence. <\/p>\n

\u201cI spoke about it with Jeff. We have a job on our hands this season, but I do want to be here long-term. To do that I need results. We have to be realistic, but my focus is on doing a good job and making sure we\u2019re a PL club next season, but there is some realism too.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Keys draws the comparison between Wolves and Southampton <\/p>\n

For large parts of last season, Southampton threatened to go down as the worst side in Premier League<\/a> history.<\/p>\n

They had double the points at this stage compared to Wolves, and so the comparison is obvious. <\/p>\n

As Keys puts it: \u201cA year ago Saints were bottom with four points and never looked like getting out of trouble. I like Edwards and I wish him well but he\u2019s got a job and a half on at Molineux.\u201d<\/p>\n

There\u2019s no denying that the odds against the new Wolves boss, and the fixtures aren\u2019t getting any kinder. <\/p>\n

That\u2019s a pretty unpleasant month ahead of Edwards<\/a> and his players, but he\u2019s only just entered the post. <\/p>\n
