A pedestrian was left injured after being struck by a car near Bury<\/a> town centre on Tuesday (November 25). Police and paramedics were called to the scene following the incident on Haymarket Street, at the junction with Angouleme Way.<\/p>\n

The road was closed off by emergency crews following the incident. Police confirmed the car had struck the pedestrian, an elderly man, who was then taken to hospital for treatment.<\/p>\n

The nature of his condition has not been confirmed, but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening. The road was closed off for a short while amid the emergency response.<\/p>\n

Writing on social media, Bury Council said: “Due to a collision, Haymarket Street at its junction with Angouleme Way is closed. Also closed is Angouleme Way from its junction with Manchester Road. Expect delays and allow extra travel time.”<\/p>\n

Greater Manchester Police<\/a> confirmed the driver, a man, was later arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs. He was taken into custody to be questioned in connection with the incident.<\/p>\n

The road later reopened as a delivery truck collected the vehicle involved.
