Sheffield United\u2019s owners may have some explaining to do after staggering reports emerged that they enquired about the purchase of Sheffield Wednesday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Wednesday\u2019s drawn-out takeover process continues, with a shortlist finally emerging<\/a> to fully rid the club of the profoundly unpopular Dejphon Chansiri.<\/p>\n

The Telegraph claim that around 80 different parties made initial inquiries, and incredibly United\u2019s owners were among them<\/a>.<\/p>\n

COH Sports contacted administrators<\/a>, but a deal was instantly ruled out, with such an ownership structure impossible in the EFL, let alone with such a fierce rivalry at stake.<\/p>\n

Yet to make matters even more staggering, the Daily Mail adds that one party from the Wednesday side wanted to merge the two teams<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Such suggestions are undoubtedly ludicrous, but show how wide-reaching the appeal of the stricken Championship side is.<\/p>\n

Speaking to talkSPORT, football finance expert Stefan Borson said that there are 11 bidders for the Owls<\/a>, and that he is involved with one of them.<\/p>\n

“I’m working with one of the bidders. There are a number of bidders in play, a number of credible players around,” Borson said.<\/p>\n

“Apparently, there’s 11 that have given proof of funds for \u00a350m of liquid assets. That is a serious process, and there is serious interest.<\/p>\n

“The issue is actually that you can’t just look at the headline price here. This is a club that’s not had a lick of paint for quite some time and by the end of this season it will be in League One<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“It will have almost no squad and it will have a stadium that needs significant spending. So anybody that comes in is going to have to have deep pockets.<\/p>\n

“I think the people that are circling do have deep pockets, but it is not going to be a cheap deal for anybody. The challenges are great.<\/p>\n

“Getting out of League One and putting Sheffield Wednesday<\/a> where they want to be back in the Premier League is not going to be a simple journey.”<\/p>\n

Wednesday currently owe \u00a31million to HMRC in unpaid taxes and were placed into administration on October 24.<\/p>\n

The club is under a number of transfer embargoes from Chansiri\u2019s reign as a result of late payments.<\/p>\n

Their administration<\/a> also resulted in a 12-point deduction, meaning they\u2019re now 19 from Championship safety.<\/p>\n

Yet despite any prospective owner almost certainly taking charge of a League One side for the 2026\/27 season, former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan still believes Wednesday should attract plenty of interest<\/a>.<\/p>\n
