It\u2019s no secret that Destiny 2<\/a> has fallen on some pretty hard times.<\/p>\n

Chaos within the company\u2019s upper-management, a dwindling player base<\/a>, and bad decisions have caused Sony to step in and start to enforce its influence over the $3 billion developer.<\/p>\n

The Japanese giant recently noted during a financial call that it would take an \u201cimpairment loss<\/a>\u201d on the studio after it failed to perform to expectations.<\/p>\n

But Bungie will be hoping that new Destiny 2 expansion Renegades, due out on 2nd December, will turn its fortunes around a touch.<\/p>\n

This is an unusual beast: it\u2019s inspired by Star Wars, but it\u2019s not directly part of the Lucasfilm franchise. In essence, the developer is creating new lore that feels like it\u2019s from a galaxy far, far away, but also has its own identity.<\/p>\n

To be fair, while we know how easy it can be to bitch about Bungie, we really like some of the aesthetic choices here. There\u2019s some gorgeous artwork showcased in the above behind-the-scenes documentary, and we think the dev has been successful at capturing that Star Wars flavour without abandoning everything that makes Destiny 2 unique.<\/p>\n

Will it have the impact required? Well, at least on the PS Store<\/strong><\/a>, pre-orders are fairly strong for the add-on, behind only Resident Evil Requiem<\/a>, Reanimal<\/a>, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024<\/a>, and 007 First Light<\/a>. That\u2019s not bad.<\/p>\n

Whether it\u2019s enough to resurrect the embattled studio\u2019s fortunes, though, remains to be seen.<\/p>\n
