Many know her from her appearances on <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/itv\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">ITV<\/a>\u2019s This Morning, but she also posts to her own socials, helping others to advocate for themselves and understand the impact certain health issues can have.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"mirror\">Posting to TikTok at @drrajarora, the much-loved doctor reacted to a video of a woman eating sour sweets after her therapist suggested trying the method. <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/food\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"The doctor then revealed that this actually works.Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">The doctor then revealed that this actually works.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Content cannot be displayed without consent<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"mirror\">She explained: &#8220;This is something that actually helps with anxiety. The idea behind this is a sensory experience. So when you have an anxiety or a panic attack, diverting your attention away from that or distracting your attention, it can be pretty powerful.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"mirror\">&#8220;So eating a really sour sweet, for example, is quite a sensory experience. It will calm you down, distract you away from that panic attack or that anxiety attack that you\u2019re having and sort of redirect you.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"mirror\">This isn&#8217;t a treatment, she warned. After she explained why it works, she also cautioned: &#8220;Is it a treatment for it? Is it a long-term management option? Obviously not. Sweets are full of processed sugars. They\u2019re full of high sugar content and overall not very good for your health. So I wouldn\u2019t recommend you\u2019re just eating bags and bags of our sweets. However, the odd one here and there, if you feel like it does distract you, can be helpful.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/0_GettyImages-1332101456.jpg\" alt=\"A Curved Rainbow Striped Candy Standing Out Form the Crowd on Solid Pink Colored Background.\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>The doctor shared the handy method(Image: Getty)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"mirror\">She added: &#8220;It can be helpful because it shifts your brain\u2019s thoughts away from those anxious thoughts into what is actually happening in the mouth and that experience that you\u2019re going through.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"mirror\">If you aren&#8217;t keen on this approach, &#8220;there are other ways to distract yourself if you\u2019re going through anxiety and it\u2019s called a grounding technique&#8221;, the doctor explained.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"mirror\"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">You can try:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"UnorderedList_unordered-list__gzblI\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"unordered-list\" publication=\"mirror\">\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Going outside and stepping on the grass<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Stomping your feet on the ground or grass<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Holding ice in your hand<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Use breathing techniques<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"mirror\">In her final message, she said: &#8220;In conclusion, having sour candy can be a short and easy distraction. But it\u2019s not something I would recommend long-term.
