We don\u2019t need to pay for Hollywood stars to come to Manchester at exorbitant rates&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>13:48, 26 Nov 2025Updated 13:55, 26 Nov 2025<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/0_Sunday-night-Manchester-Pride-Parade.jpg\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Manchester Pride is one of the UK&#8217;s biggest and best attended&#8230; but the company fell into liquidation earlier this year(Image: Kenny Brown | Manchester Evening News)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">Manchester Pride 2026 will be \u2018home-made\u2019 and \u2018co-designed\u2019 with the city\u2019s LGBTQ+ community, the council has promised.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">The future of the annual parade, party and vigil looked in doubt after its organiser, Manchester Pride Events Ltd, went <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/whats-on\/music-nightlife-news\/manchester-pride-will-take-place-32730144\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">into voluntary liquidation last month<\/a> as bosses said the event was \u2018no longer financially viable\u2019. Council leader Bev Craig quickly clarified the city will host another Pride in August 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">Now more details on what the town hall is planning with Pride have been revealed. A motion approved by all councillors on Wednesday (November 26) said the town hall will \u2018work with the LGBTQ+ community in a transparent process to co-create a new pride festival\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">\u201cWe [Manchester council] will not be running Pride,\u201d said Coun Pat Karney, a veteran Mancunian LGBTQ+ campaigner for decades.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">\u201cWe have assurances from the George House Trust the vigil will go ahead. We should go back to home-made Pride. We don\u2019t need to pay for Hollywood stars to come to Manchester at exorbitant rates.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">\u201cThe artists in this city are fantastic. They really are. We will work very hard for a successful Pride in 2026.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">Councillors have started working with performers\u2019 union Equity on supporting artists that were not paid for the 2025 event, Coun Jon-Connor Lyons added. The approved motion also commits the authority to \u2018launch a City Wide Taskforce to shape Manchester Pride 2026\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/1764168555_510_0_Sunday-night-Manchester-Pride-Parade.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>(Image: Kenny Brown | Manchester Evening News)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">It was originally proposed by opposition Lib Dem councillors, before being amended by the dominant Labour group.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">Coun Alan Good initially called for the \u2018new Pride\u2019 to have greater community involvement. He explained why: \u201cI think Manchester Pride became a bit of money-grabbing event that became rootless.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">\u201cThis model of running Pride is broken. The rise of smaller local Prides is testament to that. <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/didsbury\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Didsbury<\/a> Pride, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/whalley-range\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Whalley Range<\/a> Pride, and <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/salford\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Salford<\/a> Pride are amazing local Prides and a reaction to what was going on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">Fellow Lib Dem Coun Chris Northwood, the city\u2019s first openly-trans councillor representing, added: \u201cIt\u2019s important the community remains at the heart of Pride process. It felt more like a commercial music festival and it felt like that was part of its collapse. It was also criticised for losing the protest element which is why it was set up.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">\u201cThat\u2019s why we need to focus on not being a commercial event. That\u2019s a wonderful side effect but not the point of Pride.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">More information on Manchester Pride 2026, such as when it will take place, if the parade will be retained, and more are expected to be given in an update to its \u2018communities and equalities scrutiny committee\u2019 in due course.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"&#8220;We should go back to home-made Pride.
