In a post on social media last month, Liverpool\u2019s Liberal Democrat group said it was \u201cnot unreasonable\u201d for those using green spaces to make profit to contribute to their upkeep.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">Cllr Carl Cashman told the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"ECHO Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">ECHO <\/a>his group had no plans to introduce a levy on city dog walkers. He branded the Labour attack as \u201cseriously desperate\u201d as a ruling group source said \u201cour parks belong to everyone\u201d across Liverpool.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">The controversial plans in Bristol were introduced amid a huge public backlash. It said: \u201cThe Liverpool Labour party is calling on the Liverpool Liberal Democrats to scrap their plans to introduce a tax on dog walkers, which they have said they would introduce if they take control of Liverpool City Council in 2027.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">\u201cThe proposed dog walker tax, already being introduced in Lib Dem &amp; Green run Bristol, would mean local dog walkers, many on low-income, will be made to pay up to \u00a3500 a year to use our local parks to walk the dogs they care for. Cllr Cashman hit out at Labour\u2019s attack after his party said those running a fitness class at a council leisure centre would be expected to pay.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">He said: \u201cThe tweet talks about businesses using a park for a commercial profit not dog walkers. I wouldn\u2019t be surprised as they tried to sell off Calderstones Park and <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/woolton\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Woolton<\/a> Woods in the past.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">\u201cParks are for people, not for profit. That\u2019s why we want to see community money put into renovating them, placing them in trust so they can\u2019t be developed on, and keeping them going for future generations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">A Labour source said: \u201cIt\u2019s really disappointing to see the Liverpool Liberal Democrats endorse a tax on local dog walkers. We believe that our parks belong to everyone in this city.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">\u201cWe stand firmly against Lib Dem plans to charge local dog walkers up to \u00a3500 a year. A dog tax is wrong, plain and simple.
