Multiple sources say Netflix won a bidding war and is now beginning early stage development.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tDeadline can also reveal that Netflix has struck a development deal with Barantini\u2019s It\u2019s All Made Up Productions, which the in-demand Barantini runs with Boiling Point exec Samantha Beddoe. A Netflix spokeswoman told us the streamer is \u201cpicking up the rights to\u00a0Eat the Rich\u00a0in connection to our development\u00a0deal with\u00a0Its All Made Up\u00a0Productions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tWe understand Franks plans to adapt the play herself, similar to how Richard Gadd transferred his one-man play into Netflix hit Baby Reindeer. Franks and her agent at <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/independent-talent-group\/\" id=\"auto-tag_independent-talent-group\" data-tag=\"independent-talent-group\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Independent Talent Group<\/a> had been meeting with producers in the UK and U.S., we are told. The adaptation is in early development and is not guaranteed to make it to screen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tEat the Rich (But Maybe Not Me Mates X) is inspired by Franks\u2019s life as a working-class student at Cambridge. It follows Jade, a first-year university student from Liverpool in the north of England who juggles secret cleaning shifts with the culture shock of Oxbridge privilege.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe play, which comes from JFR Productions and director Tatenda Shamiso, has been praised for its exploration of the absurdities of class, money and belonging in the UK. It won The Scotsman\u2019s Fringe First Award, The Holden Street Theatres Award and The Filipa Bragan\u00e7a Award, and will soon begin a short run at the Soho Theatre in London.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIt\u2019s All Made Up, which is backed by Avalon, has a development deal with Netflix and<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/11\/philip-barantini-to-direct-hell-jumper-netflix-1236614581\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> is also making Hell Jumper for the streamer<\/a>, a feature adaptation of the award-winning BBC documentary. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIf Eat the Rich makes it to screen, it will follow in a line of Netflix shows adapted from plays that made a splash at Edinburgh.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tBaby Reindeer was one of the streamer\u2019s most popular shows of 2024, having an outsized impact on the zeitgeist. Deadline then revealed that Netflix had <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2024\/10\/netflix-weather-girl-tv-series-baby-reindeer-brian-watkins-julia-mcdermott-1236163131\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">scouted out Brian Watkins and Julia McDermott\u2019s Weather Girl<\/a>, an apocalyptic one-woman play about a Californian weather girl in meltdown that staged sold out shows to rave reviews at Edinburgh. That show was <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/10\/netflix-weather-girl-a24-ginger-team-downey-1236593841\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recently confirmed<\/a> with A24 and Robert Downey Jr\u2019s Team Downey.
