This would be the first step in a long line of works to bring the Grade-II listed building back to its former glory.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/tameside\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Tameside<\/a> council leader Eleanor Wills has made a bold promise to transform the site by 2030.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">The work forms part of the \u00a319.87m Levelling Up Funding allocated by the Government to specifically regenerate the town centre. The approved plans will see the steps returned to their original 1840 design, while improving safety and accessibility.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/0_ashton-town-hall-4.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Decaying rooms inside the Grade-Two listed building(Image: Tameside council)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">The town hall was vacated in 2015 and has since fallen into a state of disrepair. Work on the steps will be completed in line with the Market Square works in Spring 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">This restoration complements the ongoing transformation of Market Square, creating a vibrant civic space for events and visitors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">Changes to the site will be made over the next week meaning the pedestrian walkway in front of the town hall will be moved to allow Tameside\u2019s Engineers to continue work.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">The council is also progressing with feasibility and design work to transform the town hall into a vibrant space by 2030. A revitalised council chamber and function room; community spaces; commercial space for a wine bar, coffee shop, and restaurant; office plots; and a possible extension are all on the cards for the restoration.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/1761468379_228_0_ashton-town-hall.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Ashton Town Hall(Image: Tameside council)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">The restoration will happen in phases, with construction expected to start in 2028 and finish by 2030, subject to confirmation of funding.
