Donald Trump\u2019s team is seeking to overhaul\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/us-and-eu-strike-trade-deal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the framework trade agreement<\/a>\u00a0he struck with von der Leyen at his Scottish golf resort in July.<\/p>\n<p>The intervention lands at a sensitive time in ongoing trade talks.\u00a0Washington views the DMA as discriminatory because the large technology platforms it regulates \u2014 like Microsoft, Google or Amazon \u2014 are nearly all American. It also takes exception to the <a href=\"https:\/\/pro.politico.eu\/bills\/609148\/overview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Digital Services Act<\/a>, which seeks to curb illegal online speech,\u00a0seeing it as designed to restrict social networks like Elon Musk\u2019s X.<\/p>\n<p>Ribera said the rules were a matter of\u00a0sovereignty\u00a0and should not be brought into the scope of a trade negotiation. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe respect the rules, whatever\u00a0rules,\u00a0they\u2019ve got for their market:\u00a0digital market, health sector, steel, whatever &#8230; cars, standards,\u201d she said\u00a0referring to the U.S.\u00a0\u201cIt is their problem.
