Previously staged in Belfast, Glasgow, Cardiff and Newcastle, the festival brings together people working across the TV comedy sector to celebrate the industry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">From Wednesday, May 13 until Friday, May 15, 2026, the city will host a packed programme of talks, panel discussions, screenings, a short film night and <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/whats-on\/comedy-news\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">live comedy performances.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">Last year&#8217;s <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/bbc\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">BBC<\/a> <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/whats-on\/comedy-news\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Comedy Festival in Belfast<\/a> featured 16 panels and masterclasses across two days and welcomed more than 70 comedians and creators, including Steve Coogan, Lisa McGee, Ash Atalla and Michelle de Swarte.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">During the event, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/whats-on\/comedy-news\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">BBC Comedy and BBC Northern Ireland <\/a>revealed a new initiative that ringfences \u00a3500,000 to support comedy production in Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">The Liverpool festival will launch a new wave of development and production opportunities in the North West, with further details to be released in due course.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/1_Liverpool-waterfront-and-illuminated-Liver-Building-at-the-Pier-Head-Photo-by-Colin-Lane.jpg\" alt=\"The Liverpool festival will launch a new wave of development and production opportunities in the North West\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>The Liverpool festival will launch a new wave of development and production opportunities in the North West(Image: Colin Lane\/Liverpool Echo)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">Jon Petrie, director of comedy at the BBC, said: &#8220;Liverpool has funny bones and a rich culture of producing top tier comedy creatives, so we\u2019re delighted to be bringing the BBC Comedy Festival 2026 to the city.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">&#8220;Comedy forms a unique corner of the television industry and in British culture. It\u2019s important that we provide a forum that brings together some of the best comedy minds to celebrate and discuss the success of the sector now and in the future.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">This year\u2019s festival will additionally include a range of public-facing panels and events.
