ITV hosts Ed Balls and Susanna Reid led the morning’s coverage as they interviewed Chancellor Rachel Reeves about her Autumn Budget announcement.<\/p>\n
The Chancellor joined via video link from Coventry to discuss Wednesday afternoon’s House of Commons statement with the presenting duo.<\/p>\n
Shortly afterwards, viewers flocked to X to voice their concerns about the interview, with considerable numbers questioning Ed’s suitability to conduct the discussion with the Labour MP.<\/p>\n
One viewer remarked: “Ed Balls should not be on #gmb too close to Labour and his previous role with them. #ofcom this is unacceptable.”<\/p>\n
Another wrote: “I like Ed Balls, but he literally just said to Rachel Reeves, great Budget, just shame it was leaked. If that’s not biased broadcasting, I’m not sure what is!”<\/p>\n A further viewer posted: “#GMB Ed Balls should not be interviewing his wife’s colleague, who she sat next to on the front bench yesterday; he is an ex-Labour Chancellor and is pro-Reeves agenda. He’s biased.”<\/p>\n One viewer remarked: “#gmb Balls should not be interviewing his wife’s colleagues.”<\/p>\n Whilst another commented: “#GMB BALLS making it easier for Rachel in accounts.”<\/p>\n The criticism echoes previous concerns raised last year when Ed interviewed his wife, Yvette Cooper, who was serving as Home Secretary at that time, reports Wales Online<\/p>\n Consequently, Ofcom received over 16,000 complaints regarding two contentious interviews in the same episode, one with Ed and his wife, and another featuring Coventry South MP Zarah Sultana.<\/p>\n Despite the high volume of complaints, the regulator chose not to pursue an investigation. ITV defended the interview at the time, asserting it was ‘fair and impartial’.<\/p>\n Dame Carolyn McCall, ITV’s Chief Executive, remarked: “Would we do it again? No. Was it impartial, fair and balanced? And did they behave professionally? Yes.<\/p>\n “I mean, he asked her a few questions, but I think Kate was leading on that, wasn’t she?
