The last nation to win three straight titles was the United States, which won five on the bounce from 1968-72.<\/p>\n<p>The second-ranked Sinner, who led Italy to men\u2019s tennis biggest team trophy the past two years, <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/jannik-sinner-davis-cup-82a94a5bd35152e4b4a3140a83ec3c37\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">opted out<\/a> of playing this week, preferring to prepare for next season instead. No. 8-ranked Lorenzo Musetti wasn\u2019t playing, either.<\/p>\n<p>Italy didn\u2019t need them, winning all three of its matches 2-0 this week in the SuperTennis Arena in Bologna after eliminating Austria in the quarterfinals and <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/davis-cup-italy-belgium-semifinal-05333d0d0bcd34e30ebee6ec2c64066e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Belgium in the semifinals<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Spain was also without its star player \u2014 top-ranked <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/alcaraz-injury-davis-cup-7f8701686a2963fe8a96a663b340dd98\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Carlos Alcaraz<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In Sunday\u2019s final, Berrettini beat Pablo Carreno Busta 6-3, 6-4 before Cobolli fought back to beat Jaume Munar 1-6, 7-6 (5), 7-5 and clinch the <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DavisCup\/status\/1992673079701737751?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">winning point<\/a> \u2014 as he has all three times this week. Cobolli dropped his racket to the ground and was lifted in the air by his Italy teammates.<\/p>\n<p>Italy first won the Davis Cup in 1976, before wins in Malaga in 2023 and \u201924.
