Morgan’s mum Michelle Burtwistle says she ‘just can\u2019t wait to give him the biggest hug on that bridge’<\/p>\n

He already had millions of fans and now Angry Ginge has found himself with millions more after winning viewers’ hearts during his stint in the jungle.<\/p>\n

The online content creator is known for his football-related streaming and gaming content on platforms like Twitch and YouTube. His real name is Morgan Sam Lee Burtwistle and his every move on ITV’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here<\/a> is being watched closely by his friends and family back home, including his mum Michelle.<\/p>\n

She’s seen him tackle his biggest fear when he had to grab hold of large Huntsman spiders during one challenge and has watched the 24-year-old break down in tears when he admitted to missing home and not being able to ‘just text my mum’.<\/p>\n

Mum-of-two Michelle was visiting Ginge at his home in Manchester when he first broke the news that he was going in the jungle, a show they’ve watched together throughout his childhood.<\/p>\n

“I was so proud, I gave him the biggest hug,” she said. “He\u2019s mentioned before that he\u2019d love to do the jungle, but he was worried it might be too tough for him.”<\/p>\n

His homesickness hasn’t come as too much of a surprise to the 50-year-old, who raised Morgan and his sister as a single parent, mostly while living on the Brookhouse Estate in Eccles<\/a>, Salford<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“I took Morgan camping at Donington Park for the MotoGP when he was nine,” said Michelle. “He woke up at 2am being sick all over the tent, not the best experience. And whenever we went to a caravan on holiday, he\u2019d be sick the first night, that\u2019s when I realised, he was homesick. Same with Cub sleepovers, he\u2019d get ill and I\u2019d have to pick him up.”<\/p>\n

Despite his name, she says her son is ‘not an angry person except when he\u2019s gaming’ where his frustrations emerge because ‘he\u2019s a very sore loser’. And it’s his time streaming on Twitch that she says he’ll miss the most – as well as his phone and food.<\/p>\n

Like with many families, they navigated the usual ups and downs of his early passion for gaming and streaming.<\/p>\n

“I used to tell him to quiet down when he was shouting on his computer,” she said. “Once he wouldn\u2019t stop, so on my way out I unplugged the wi-fi and took the dongle with me, he was not impressed.”<\/p>\n

It was when Ginge was 19 at college, working as a dinner supervisor at lunchtime, that he eventually asked his mum what she thought about him leaving to focus on streaming.<\/p>\n

Michelle said: “I told him to go for it, you never know where it might lead, and I didn\u2019t want him to have any regrets.”<\/p>\n

Her faith in her only son paid off. He now has millions of followers on multiple platforms where he shares mostly football-related content. In the last year alone, he’s predicted to have made an impressive fortune between \u00a3804,000 and \u00a31.1 million just from social media.<\/p>\n

He’s also part of The Bov Boys streaming collective alongside pals Jakey, Chazza, Heinz and Tays. The social media creators produce content for TikTok and YouTube, securing hundreds of millions of monthly views across platforms by sharing aspects of their everyday lives.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m so proud of him, he\u2019s come so far in such a short time and worked so hard,” his mum said. “It feels surreal seeing him on I’m A Celebrity. I watch his streams and his videos but I watch I\u2019m A Celeb every year, so seeing him on it is strange in the most amazing way.”<\/p>\n

Remembering her son’s time at school, she said he spent some of it at Christ Church CE Primary in Eccles and then Northern Primary School in Bacup, when his family lived there for four years.<\/p>\n

It was there ‘he got told off for being the class clown, always joking at the wrong time’, she said.<\/p>\n

At his high school, Salford City Academy in Eccles, his favourite subjects were drama and history. It wasn’t all plain sailing – ‘he once got into trouble for selling Lucozade at school to make money’ said Michelle, but he ‘always did his homework on time’ and became a prefect, school ambassador, pupil council member and in his final year, head boy.<\/p>\n

It’s those leadership qualities he’s now using in his role as manager of Winton Wanderers Yanited, a team he took over in 2024.<\/p>\n

As well as managing Winton Yanited under 19s, he’s also manager of one of the 12 teams in Baller League UK, also called Yanited.<\/p>\n

As a passionate Manchester United fan – his favourite player being Bruno Fernandes – he’s openly supported grassroots football throughout his career and described the opportunity to play at Soccer Aid in the summer as ‘a dream come true’.<\/p>\n

“Winton Yanited are in their second season, and he absolutely loves being manager, he\u2019s fully hands-on,” said Michelle. “The players have a lot of respect for him and all get on brilliantly. He often takes them out for team meals.”<\/p>\n

Aside from football, he loves playing darts and has built a friendship with darts champion Luke Littler, who he appeared alongside in a celebrity episode of Gogglebox.<\/p>\n

Explaining how their friendship came about, Michelle said: “Morgan has always loved darts, I used to play with him in his bedroom from about age 12, 13. Luke Littler followed him on social media, and Morgan was thrilled. I think they got chatting from there.”<\/p>\n

And during his time in the jungle, Ginge is proving that he’s hard not to like. He already had a close bond with Manchester rapper Aitch before the pair arrived in Oz, but the pals have been inseparable in camp. And he’s built up an unlikely bond with Ruby Wax.<\/p>\n

His mum told us: “The response has been so positive, people are seeing the genuine person he is, and they love the sweet relationship with Ruby. I think he looks at her like a grandmother figure, he wants to look after her, and they have really lovely banter.<\/p>\n

“I honestly don\u2019t think he\u2019ll clash with anyone, he gets on with people easily. If someone does annoy him, he\u2019ll be upfront and say why.”<\/p>\n

Morgan is close to his own nan Julie who has previously appeared alongside him on his streams. He was also extremely close to his grandad Keith who passed away in February 2021 and was his ‘biggest inspiration and champion’.<\/p>\n

Michelle knows he’ll be missing his close family, including his sister, nan and the other relatives shown on the photo he was given in camp. He\u2019s also still close with his grandad\u2019s wife\u2019s family.<\/p>\n

Three things she knows he’ll be missing are football, padel, and streaming, but she has no doubt he’ll also be missing his favourite grub.<\/p>\n

“His favourite food depends on whether he\u2019s eating healthy or not,” she said. “Nando\u2019s if he is, Chinese if he isn\u2019t. And he has a sweet tooth – Haribos and wine gums especially. His favourite meals I cook are my shepherd\u2019s pie, quiche and Sunday dinner.”<\/p>\n

She’s unsure what, if anything, will annoy her happy-go-lucky son, who ‘loves his sleep’, but likes punctuality more.<\/p>\n

Michelle, who describes Ginge as ‘pretty tidy’ and says ‘he\u2019ll happily muck in with camp chores’, said: “Morgan hates when people aren\u2019t on time. I don\u2019t think much in the jungle will irritate him and if it does, he\u2019ll say something.<\/p>\n

“He loves his sleep, but if he has an early appointment, he\u2019ll be up for it. He\u2019s naturally a night owl because he streams late, then has a lie-in.”<\/p>\n

When he broke down in tears on TV, Michelle said ‘my heart absolutely sank’ and she had a cry herself. But she’s loving every minute of watching his big adventure and can’t wait to be reunited when the time comes.<\/p>\n

“I started crying when I saw the clip of him,” she said. “It was so hard to see, because I know Morgan is such a strong person, so he must have been struggling a lot. I just can\u2019t wait to give him the biggest hug on that bridge and for him to see how many people have been supporting him.”<\/p>\n
