Fresh CCTV footage has captured a suspected serial fly-tipper dumping bags of rubbish in what has become one of Newport<\/a>\u2019s most blighted streets.<\/p>\n Pottery Road in Pillgwenlly has emerged as a persistent fly-tipping hotspot with repeated incidents over the past three years leaving the area strewn with waste. Residents say the street has been left in a deeply unhygienic state with discarded items including used nappies, animal bones, and soiled sanitary products. Never miss a Newport story by subscribing to our newsletter here<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n The ongoing problem has contributed to a growing rat infestation with some families reporting rodents entering gardens and even toddlers attempting to chase them.<\/p>\n In response Newport City Council has stepped up enforcement efforts following the installation of new CCTV cameras. Footage released by the council this week shows an individual carrying two black refuse sacks before dumping them on the roadside in broad daylight.<\/p>\n The council confirmed it is investigating the incident and has vowed to take action against the culprit \u2014 and any future offenders \u2014 as part of a wider crackdown on illegal waste disposal.<\/p>\n A spokesman for Newport City Council<\/a> said: \u201cThe installation of CCTV on Pottery Road is part of the council\u2019s wider crackdown on fly-tipping across the city.<\/p>\n \u201cStats for July-September 2025 showed that incidents of fly-tipping across the city were down by 23.9% when compared to the same time period in 2024.<\/p>\n \u201cThe council has removed waste that was fly-tipped at the end of Pottery Road over the weekend.<\/p>\n \u201cFollowing our installation of CCTV cameras in Pottery Road we have seen a reduction in fly-tipping in this area though incidents still persist.<\/p>\n \u201cInvestigations into these incidents are under way and we are working our way through the fly-tipping legal processes we must follow before we progress to issuing fines or seeking prosecution of offenders.<\/p>\n \u201cWe would also like to extend our thanks to residents who continue to help us tackle this problem either by reporting fly-tipping or by sharing information with us in response to our appeals.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are as sick of fly-tipping incidents as everyone else and we are committed to stamping it out.<\/p>\n \u201cThis incident has been caught on our CCTV cameras in this location, which show an individual dumping bags of rubbish at 9.22pm on Saturday evening.<\/p>\n \u201cIf anyone saw this incident or saw the person in the footage in the Pottery Road area around 9.22pm on Saturday evening, and has any information about them, we would ask that they contact us on 01633 656 656 or by email at info@newport.gov.uk<\/a>.<\/p>\n
