Six men were arrested at Birmingham Airport<\/a> this afternoon after trouble erupted in the away end at Villa Park last night.<\/p>\n

BSC Young Boys supporters threw broken seats and coins<\/a> at Aston Villa players and police officers during the Europa League<\/a> match on Thursday, November 27.<\/p>\n

Dutch forward Donyell Malen, 26, suffered a cut to his head when he was struck as he celebrated after scoring in the 2-1 Villa win.<\/p>\n

West Midlands Police<\/a> confirmed this morning that two fans of the Swiss side had been arrested on suspicion of affray and assaulting a police officer after the trouble flared.<\/p>\n

In a new update, the force says a further six men were arrested this afternoon at Birmingham Airport<\/a>.<\/p>\n

They were all being held on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and violent disorder.<\/p>\n

The two men arrested last night also remain in custody.<\/p>\n

A force spokesperson said: “A further six men have been arrested following last night\u2019s disorder during the Aston Villa vs BSC Young Boys match.<\/p>\n

“The men were all arrested from Birmingham Airport <\/a>this afternoon on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and violent disorder.<\/p>\n

“Two men who were arrested during last night\u2019s match remain in custody.<\/p>\n

“Items were thrown by BSC Young Boys fans at Aston Villa players and police officers.<\/p>\n

“Violent behaviour will not be tolerated at football matches. If you commit any act of violence, you will be arrested.”<\/p>\n

A previous statement from the force read: “Two people were arrested last night after disorder during the Aston Villa vs BSC Young Boys match.<\/p>\n

“Disorder broke out inside the stadium during the first half of the Europa League<\/a> Cup tie.<\/p>\n

“Items including broken seats and coins were thrown by away fans at Aston Villa players and police officers, and one player was struck on the head.<\/p>\n

“Officers were assaulted during the disorder.<\/p>\n
