{"id":600195,"date":"2025-11-29T00:03:13","date_gmt":"2025-11-29T00:03:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/600195\/"},"modified":"2025-11-29T00:03:13","modified_gmt":"2025-11-29T00:03:13","slug":"verified-russian-deaths-in-ukraine-war-surpass-150k-independent-tally","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/600195\/","title":{"rendered":"Verified Russian Deaths in Ukraine War Surpass 150K \u2013 Independent Tally"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Verified Russian military deaths in Ukraine have risen to at least 152,142 since the full-scale invasion, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/russian\/articles\/c8e9w821r8do\" title=\"joint count\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">joint count<\/a> by BBC Russian and Mediazona.<\/p>\n<p>The tally is based on verified open-source reports such as obituaries and court records and includes only Russian citizens.\u00a0Fighters from the so-called Donetsk and Luhansk people\u2019s republics are excluded.<\/p>\n<p>The republics of Bashkortostan and Tatarstan and the Sverdlovsk region recorded the highest numbers of confirmed fatalities, with 7,643, 6,599 and 5,386 deaths respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Moscow, a city of over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rbc.ru\/rbcfreenews\/6818bdf39a79477daa442799\" title=\"13 million\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">13 million<\/a> people, accounted for 4,520 deaths by comparison, while the republic of Chechnya reported 372.<\/p>\n<p>BBC Russian and Mediazona said losses continue to fall disproportionately on residents of small towns and rural areas.<\/p>\n<p>Around 67% of the confirmed dead came from settlements with fewer than 100,000 people. These areas account for less than half the country\u2019s population.<\/p>\n<p>Alexei Zakharov, an economist at the University of Chicago, told BBC Russian that casualty levels strongly correlate with how dependent local budgets are on federal subsidies.<\/p>\n<p>Western estimates suggest Russia\u2019s overall losses are significantly higher than the BBC Russian and Mediazona tally.<\/p>\n<p>British intelligence in June <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DefenceHQ\/status\/1933073278408478992\" title=\"put\">put<\/a> total Russian casualties at about 1 million, including up to 250,000 killed. Irreversible losses, including those missing or too badly wounded to return to service, likely stood between 400,000 and 500,000, London said.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio <a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.gov\/releases\/office-of-the-spokesperson\/2025\/07\/secretary-of-state-marco-rubios-remarks-to-the-press-at-the-kuala-lumpur-convention-center\" title=\"said\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> Russia lost around 100,000 troops killed in the first half of 2025.
