The Faroe Islands created the biggest surprise at the Women’s World Championships so far when they beat Spain 27-25 to record their first win in the final round of a World Cup tournament ever. <\/p>\n
Last year, the Faroe Islands<\/a>‘ women’s handball national team took part in the country’s first-ever final round at the European Championships, where the team got a point. But in this year’s World Championship debut, they recorded their first win ever already in the second game of the tournament.\u00a0<\/p>\n The Faroe Islands, who are coached by Claus Mogensen<\/a>, opened their World Championship campaign by losing by six goals to Montenegro, while Spain<\/a> took an expected win against Paraguay<\/a>.<\/p>\n The first half on Friday evening was an even affair, where the Faroese showed that they could easily keep up with the Spanish women.<\/p>\n Towards the break, however, it was Spain who, as expected, created a small gap thanks to very physical game.
