Photo by Maxim Shipenkov\/EPA<\/p>\n<p>Nov. 29 (UPI) &#8212; Kazakhstan&#8217;s Baikonur Cosmodrome was damaged during Thursday&#8217;s launch that sent two Russian cosmonauts and one U.S. astronaut to the International Space Station.<\/p>\n<p>Russia leases the launch facility, which is located in Kazakhstan, and a post-launch inspection by Roscosmos officials confirmed suffered damage to its launch pad, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/11\/28\/science\/russia-space-launch-pad-damaged-intl-hnk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN reported<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;An assessment of the condition of the launch complex is currently underway,&#8221; Roscosmos officials said in a statement, adding that the &#8220;damage will be repaired in the near future.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Roscosmos already has all of the equipment and parts needed at the facility to repair the launch damage.<\/p>\n<p>Video footage of the launch site indicates a service bay located beneath the launch pad became dislodged when the Soyuz 2.1a rocket initiated its booster engines during liftoff, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/russia-only-way-send-astronaut-space-serious-blast-damage-baikonur-2025-11\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Business Insider<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Part of it fell into an expansive exhaust trench, and Russian state media published the video footage showing debris flying upward during the launch.<\/p>\n<p>Roscosmos also published an overhead photo of the launch site, which shows the burned remnants of a large structure lying in the launchpad&#8217;s exhaust trench.<\/p>\n<p>The incident did not harm the spacecraft&#8217;s three crewmembers or damage the rocket and spacecraft.\n<\/p>\n<p>The Baikonur Cosmodrome is the only one available for Russia to send manned crews into space but was damaged by the blast from the rocket that sent the Soyuz MS-28 spacecraft on its way to the ISS, where it successfully docked on the ISS on Thursday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Russian Soyuz-2.1a booster rocket carrying the Soyuz MS-28 spacecraft blasts off from the Russia-leased Baikonur Cosmodrome in&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":602877,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3844],"tags":[70,413,16,15],"class_list":{"0":"post-602876","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-space","8":"tag-science","9":"tag-space","10":"tag-uk","11":"tag-united-kingdom"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@uk\/115637410091184814","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/602876","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=602876"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/602876\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/602877"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=602876"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=602876"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=602876"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
