Prince Harry attempted to prepare Meghan Markle for the intense public scrutiny that comes with royal life before they tied the knot.<\/p>\n

It has been just over eight years since Harry and Meghan announced their engagement<\/a> to the world on November 27, 2017.<\/p>\n

During a BBC interview that day, Harry<\/a> told his then-fianc\u00e9e<\/a>, “I tried to warn you as much as possible but I think both of us were totally surprised by the reaction after the first five, six months which we had to ourselves [and] what actually happened from then.”<\/p>\n

Harry was looking back on the private months the pair enjoyed together before news of their romance broke to the media in autumn 2016.<\/p>\n

The prince admitted he and Meghan were “totally unprepared” for the media storm that followed, while she addressed the false assumption that her acting career would have equipped her to handle the spotlight.<\/p>\n

She said, “I’ve never been part of tabloid culture. I’ve never been in pop culture to that degree and lived [a] relatively quiet life, even though I focused so much on my job.”<\/p>\n

Meghan revealed she made a deliberate decision to avoid reading anything about herself, whether favorable or critical, explaining the pair chose to channel all their energy into strengthening their relationship, reports the Express<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The then-future Duchess of Sussex also expressed her pride in her heritage, sharing with the BBC that she felt disappointed by commentary surrounding her being mixed-race.<\/p>\n

Harry predicted at the time that Meghan would be “unbelievably good” at royal duties, expressing his relief at finding such a partner.<\/p>\n

The couple wed in May 2018, welcoming their son, Prince Archie, in May 2019 and daughter, Princess Lilibet, in June 2021.<\/p>\n

However, by then they had already announced their decision to step down as senior working royals and relocated to North America.<\/p>\n

In a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Meghan opened up about her marriage and family life, saying, “[Harry] loves me so boldly, fully, and he also has a different perspective because he sees media that I wouldn’t.<\/p>\n

“No one in the world loves me more than him, so I know he’s always going to make sure that he has my back.”<\/p>\n
