{"id":604142,"date":"2025-11-30T22:26:26","date_gmt":"2025-11-30T22:26:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/604142\/"},"modified":"2025-11-30T22:26:26","modified_gmt":"2025-11-30T22:26:26","slug":"scottish-labour-mps-back-keir-starmer-oust-fearing-holyrood-wipeout","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/604142\/","title":{"rendered":"Scottish Labour MPs back Keir Starmer oust fearing Holyrood wipeout"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  Senior party sources in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/topics\/westminster\/?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Westminster<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/uk\/politics\/article\/scottish-mps-starmer-leadership-challenge-td8nswn8s?ref=ed_recent\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">have told The Times<\/a> that Starmer is \u201cvery unpopular\u201d with voters in Scotland and that his remaining at the helm of the party jeopardises any ambitions Labour has of taking on the SNP next year.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  According to The Times Scottish MPs are among the keenest in replacing Starmer in the new year in a bid to install a less damaging figurehead for the party.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  One insider reportedly told The Times: \u201cThe situation is untenable. The question for those of us with elections next May is \u2018is there time for a change\u2019, or do we wait to be slaughtered?\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cMy preference is before May.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <strong>READ MORE:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/news\/25660943.rachel-reeves-squirms-bbc-interview-denies-misleading-public-budget\/?ref=ed_recent\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rachel Reeves squirms in BBC interview as she denies misleading public over Budget<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Meanwhile, another claimed that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/news\/25059069.news-interviews-updates-snp\/?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SNP<\/a> are \u201cbadly disliked\u201d and \u201ceminently beatable\u201d, despite <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/news\/24575066.john-swinney-news-updates-information-first-minister\/?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">John Swinney<\/a>\u2019s party comfortably leading Labour in recent polling.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The source added: \u201cIf we\u2019re not able to mount a proper attack on them, that\u2019s a really worrying sign.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cMy concern is not that Anas can\u2019t do that. It\u2019s Keir that\u2019s very unpopular on the doorstep.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Meanwhile, a third expressed their concern of remaining \u201cstuck in third\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/news\/25573237.snp-set-huge-holyrood-2026-majority-poll-analysis-shows\/?ref=ed_recent\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">as polling also has the party trailing behind the likes of the Greens and the LibDems and slumping to fourth.<\/a>\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  They said: \u201cWe have everything to gain and little to lose by getting rid of Keir.
