And, for the first time in its history this country as reached the top.<\/p>\n<p>They have declared Greece as the <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/news\/world\/2125322\/malta-europe-retirement-britsh-pensioners\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">top destination to retire<\/a> thanks to its affordable lifestyle, private healthcare, accessible visa options and enviable Mediterranean climate.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Greece\u2019s rise to number one marks a shift in Europe\u2019s retirement landscape,&#8221; said Jennifer Stevens, Executive Editor of International Living. &#8220;For years, Portugal and Spain led the way, but recent visa changes and rising costs have retirees looking elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Greece now offers what many are seeking\u2014a beautiful, welcoming, and affordable European base with accessible residency options and a lifestyle that feels rich in every sense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The country received high scores in the categories of climate, healthcare and housing. These key pointers can make those heading to Greece feel at home.<\/p>\n<p>Their Golden Visa program, which grants residency through property investment, remains one of Europe\u2019s most accessible, particularly now that Portugal has tightened its rules.<\/p>\n<p>International Living\u2019s Global Diversification Expert Ted Baumann added: \u201cAll in all, when it comes to Golden Visa options, I\u2019d say Greece is more than the new Portugal\u2026 it may be even better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The publication&#8217;s Greece correspondent Leena Horner retired to Corfu four years ago with her husband. They live comfortably on about \u20ac2,900\u2013\u20ac3,000 a month, which is about \u00a32,600. Seaside homes can cost \u20ac600 to \u20ac1,000 a month to rent, and a dinner for two with wine costs \u20ac30\u2013\u20ac50, which comes in at a max of \u00a344.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of her new life, Leena said: &#8220;Greece quietly transforms the way you live.
