{"id":604710,"date":"2025-12-01T05:49:11","date_gmt":"2025-12-01T05:49:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/604710\/"},"modified":"2025-12-01T05:49:11","modified_gmt":"2025-12-01T05:49:11","slug":"top-seeded-team-usa-back-for-more-united-cup-glory-news-article-united-cup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/604710\/","title":{"rendered":"Top-seeded Team USA back for more United Cup glory | News Article | United Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Team USA has been the team to beat <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedcup.com\/en\/about\/champions\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">throughout the United Cup\u2019s short history<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In 2023, with Taylor Fritz, Madison Keys, Frances Tiafoe and Jessica Pegula, the Americans swept Poland in the semifinals, before defeating Italy 4-0 in the final to claim the inaugural trophy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>World No.3 Coco Gauff then debuted in 2025, and went on to defeat a determined Iga Swiatek 6-4 6-4 in the final to put the red, white and blue within striking distance of a second United Cup title \u2013 cemented when Fritz finished the job against Hubert Hurkacz.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Gauff returns in 2026, alongside Fritz, aiming to go back-to-back at an event with an impressively stacked field in January.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/premier.ticketek.com.au\/shows\/show.aspx?sh=UNITEDCP26\" target=\"_blank\">TICKETS: Support Team USA in Perth at the United Cup<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m super excited to go back to the United Cup,\u201d Gauff said. \u201cI had such a good time in my first year playing with the team, and I\u2019m looking forward to going back.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It was another stellar season for the 21-year-old, who ended her third consecutive season inside the top three \u2013 making her the youngest woman to do so this century.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In Paris, she added a Roland Garros trophy to go with her first major title at the US Open in 2023, as well as a WTA 1000 title in Wuhan.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Gauff\u2019s total career titles stand at 11, but what\u2019s often overlooked is her remarkable doubles record; the former world No.1 partnered with fellow American McCartney Kessler to win the Canadian Open, marking her 10th career doubles crown.<\/p>\n<p>Due to their individual dominance at United Cup 2025, the Fritz\u2013Gauff partnership wasn\u2019t showcased as often as fans might have hoped. But when they did team up, it was electric.<\/p>\n<p>In one of last year\u2019s standout matches, the pair outlasted F\u00e9lix Auger-Aliassime and Leylah Fernandez in a thrilling, winner-takes-all mixed doubles clash that stretched well past midnight.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s almost more fun to win the team events because you have people to celebrate with afterwards,&#8221; said Fritz, who \u2013 armed with an Olympic bronze medal in doubles and three Laver Cup trophies as part of Team World \u2013 is no stranger to team competition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCoco made it easy for me as the MVP on the team; it definitely helped my job a lot, and it&#8217;s great to get it a second time,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Fritz has enjoyed another consistent season, finishing it firmly entrenched inside the top 10.<\/p>\n<p>The 28-year-old won two titles on grass before a semifinal run at Wimbledon, reached the quarterfinals at the US Open, and qualified for the ATP finals for the third time in his burgeoning career.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On paper, Team USA will start as firm favourites <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedcup.com\/en\/visit-perth\/whats-on\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">when navigating the group stages<\/a> against Spain and Argentina. Should they get through that, scenarios become more intriguing.<\/p>\n<p>Whether it\u2019s \u015awi\u0105tek <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedcup.com\/en\/media\/news\/team-poland-swiatek-hurkacz\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">trying to push Poland over the hump<\/a>, Canada seeking revenge behind a flourishing Auger-Aliassime and teenage sensation Victoria Mboko, Great Britain\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedcup.com\/en\/media\/news\/team-great-britain-jack-draper-emma-raducanu\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">star duo Jack Draper and Emma Raducanu<\/a>, a Naomi Osaka-led Japan, or Alex de Minaur <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedcup.com\/en\/media\/news\/team-australia-de-minaur-joint\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">hungry to win it all on home soil<\/a>, the Americans will compete with a bullseye on their backs.<\/p>\n<p>At United Cup 2025, Gauff made waves with her now-iconic shovel celebration. \u201cI just dug deep and, you know, got that win.
