{"id":605208,"date":"2025-12-01T11:59:37","date_gmt":"2025-12-01T11:59:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/605208\/"},"modified":"2025-12-01T11:59:37","modified_gmt":"2025-12-01T11:59:37","slug":"select-donates-2500-to-prostate-scotland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/605208\/","title":{"rendered":"SELECT donates \u00a32,500 to Prostate Scotland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>                <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Helen, Mike and Mae at the SELECT 125th Grand Ball_smaller.jpg\" alt=\"SELECT donates \u00a32,500 to Prostate Scotland\" class=\"w-100\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-0\">Helen, Mike and Mae at the SELECT 125th Grand Ball<\/p>\n<p>Electrotechnical trade association SELECT used its landmark 125th Anniversary Grand Ball to make a \u00a32,500 donation to Prostate Scotland as part of an ongoing campaign to educate its members about the disease that affects thousands of men every year.<\/p>\n<p>Scotland\u2019s largest construction trade body handed over the contribution at the culmination of its year of celebrations, during which it has teamed up with the charity to use real-life member stories to raise awareness and encourage testing.<\/p>\n<p>The glittering event, sponsored by Scolmore Group, saw 300 members, guests and industry leaders gather at the Glasgow Marriott Hotel on Friday 14 November to mark the founding of the world\u2019s first electrical trade association in 1900.<\/p>\n<p>                                    <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottishconstructionnow.com\/advert-click\/65b10b485e102\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-advert=\"65b10b485e102\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Mabey Hire - Scottish Construction Now MPU Mar 25.gif\" class=\"advert\" data-advert=\"65b10b485e102\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>                                    <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottishconstructionnow.com\/advert-click\/62a089028f66a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-advert=\"62a089028f66a\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Presentation9.gif\" class=\"advert\" data-advert=\"62a089028f66a\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Hosted by broadcaster and comedian Fred MacAulay \u2013 who revealed earlier this year that he had been diagnosed with the disease \u2013 the event shone a spotlight on the importance of early detection and encouraged guests to help spread the message across the industry.<\/p>\n<p>Handing over the donation to charity representatives Mae Bell and Helen Fleming, SELECT president Mike Stark told guests: \u201cOur esteemed host and many of you in this room will know only too well that prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in Scotland.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe therefore want to raise awareness among our members, encourage them to get themselves checked out and let them know that help and support is out there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo help it continue its work, the SELECT Central Board has therefore agreed to make this donation to Prostate Scotland in recognition of its fantastic achievements.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>                                    <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottishconstructionnow.com\/advert-click\/6911cac55275e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-advert=\"6911cac55275e\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/hire-fleet-mpu-splash-nov.25-ad-3-live.gif\" class=\"advert\" data-advert=\"6911cac55275e\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>                                    <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottishconstructionnow.com\/advert-click\/67af2fe6b1a2b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-advert=\"67af2fe6b1a2b\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Scottish-Construction-Now-Small.gif\" class=\"advert\" data-advert=\"67af2fe6b1a2b\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>                <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/SELECT Immediate Past President Alistair Grant.jpg\" alt=\"SELECT donates \u00a32,500 to Prostate Scotland\" class=\"w-100\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-0\">SELECT immediate past president Alistair Grant<\/p>\n<p>Alison Wright, CEO of Prostate Scotland, said: \u201cWe are grateful for this donation and delighted that SELECT is helping us spread the message that prostate cancer is more common than most men realise, yet is treatable the sooner that it\u2019s found.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cProstate cancer affects more men in Scotland than any other, with more than 4,200 diagnoses each year. However, when it\u2019s found early, over 80% of men will live well for years \u2013 so early detection really matters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany men can feel embarrassed to talk about things like this, so together we want to remove the stigma and encourage SELECT members to start having life-saving conversations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>                                    <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottishconstructionnow.com\/advert-click\/63db81e3989a2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-advert=\"63db81e3989a2\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/SCN_MPU 2025.jpg\" class=\"advert\" data-advert=\"63db81e3989a2\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>                                    <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottishconstructionnow.com\/advert-click\/644b6f813684b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-advert=\"644b6f813684b\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Spifox MPU.png\" class=\"advert\" data-advert=\"644b6f813684b\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>SELECT\u2019s campaign with Prostate Scotland is raising awareness with case studies from members including Immediate Past President Alistair Grant, who successfully underwent prostate cancer surgery in 2016 and now encourages his fellow contractors to get checked.<\/p>\n<p>He recently told the association\u2019s cabletalk magazine: \u201cI consider myself very lucky. I\u2019m living proof that early detection saves lives. I\u2019d urge every man over 50, especially in our industry, to speak to their GP and ask for a PSA test. It could make all the difference.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>SELECT membership representative Diane Hales also told the publication how her husband Keith is currently receiving treatment after a check revealed he had prostate cancer.
