I went to the “worst part” of Spain earlier this year and I’d happily go back there tomorrow.<\/p>\n
I accidentally booked a family holiday very close to a resort known for its partying and drunken antics, and when I realised how close I was, I was intrigued.<\/p>\n
Looking for flights during the summer holidays, I had two criteria in mind. One, they couldn’t be extortionate. And two, I didn’t want to fly at silly o’clock.<\/p>\n
After some searching, I found flights that ticked both boxes. The destination? Palma de Mallorca.<\/p>\n
Deciding where to stay was then almost-impossible, due to Mallorca’s vast size, but thankfully a friend recommended Palma Nova. She said it was beautiful, and the fact it’s just 20 minutes from the airport was a huge bonus.<\/p>\n
But then, another friend offered something of a warning: “Palma Nova is beautiful but it’s right next to Magaluf”.<\/p>\n
The comment needed no further explanation. Magaluf has earned notoriety as one of Spain’s most controversial destinations, attracting hordes of tourists seeking non-stop nightlife and parties.<\/p>\n
But upon arriving in Palma Nova, curiosity got the better of me, and I decided to explore the infamous neighbouring resort myself.<\/p>\n
Sure enough, Magaluf was a mere 10 minute walk away and I was soon on the notorious strip, featuring establishments with names like Prince Harry<\/a> and Eastenders<\/a> Karaoke.<\/p>\n The scene matched my expectations, though visiting at lunchtime meant the streets were virtually deserted.
