A new \u201cgrunge folk\u201d band has formed in Salford and they are set to play their first gig at the Eagle Inn.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Frontman Alwyn Jones, previously known for his solo project, has announced the formation of a new band called MEDIARES.<\/p>\n

The name, derived from the Shakespearean stage direction \u2018in media res\u2019 (meaning \u2018the story begins midway through the scene\u2019), reflects a desire for a fresh start and a more collaborative approach to music.<\/p>\n

While Jones acknowledges that the project is still largely his \u201cbaby,\u201d he aims to foster a collective atmosphere, allowing for greater creative freedom among its members.<\/p>\n

Jones explained his motivation behind stepping away from his solo career to form a band.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m just sick of it being me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI got really tired of it, so I pulled the project.\u201d<\/p>\n

The band is designed to be more collaborative than his previous \u2018Alwyn Jones\u2019 project.<\/p>\n

MEDIARES is characterised by a unique blend of musical styles, which Jones describes as \u201cgrunge folk.\u201d<\/p>\n

He explained, \u201cI\u2019ve got like this grungy thing going on with my drums-based electric guitar and then I\u2019ve got the folk thing at the same time.\u201d<\/p>\n

He believes that \u201ceven the grunge stuff is kind of folk coded.\u201d<\/p>\n

He elaborated on the connection between grunge and folk, stating, \u201cI don\u2019t think they are too different.\u201d<\/p>\n

The band currently consists of eight members. Jones said: \u201cThere are nine of us in pictures, but one of them is just a producer.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe plays piano on one of the tunes.\u201d<\/p>\n

The lineup also includes a string trio and Jones\u2019s sister, whom he has \u201cdrafted in to co-sing, essentially.\u201d<\/p>\n

MEDIARES is scheduled to play their first gig at The Eagle Inn. Jones chose the venue because \u201cIt\u2019s like it\u2019s a second home. I love the Eagle Inn.<\/p>\n

\u201cI go all the time, it\u2019s a great boozer just anyway.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also noted that the venue \u201centices as folk artists, that\u2019s just kind of what\u2019s going on there all the time.\u201d<\/p>\n

The first official release from MEDIARES is a YouTube video of their song \u201cPitchforks,\u201d which released last Friday.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
