A West London GP surgery has become the first in the UK to trial Mirror, an AI-powered patient scribe that captures the key points of a medical consultation and turns them into clear, plain-English notes for patients to take home.<\/p>\n

Golborne Medical, part of the NeoHealth Primary Care Network, is launching the pilot under the leadership of Dr Yasmin Razak, Principal GP NeoHealth PCN and Education Lead for West London.<\/p>\n

As part of the trial, the practice will offer a cohort of patients\u2019 free access to the Mirror app to use during their appointments, enabling the surgery to gather real-world feedback on the tool\u2019s impact.<\/p>\n

Dr Yasmin Razak, GP, Educator, Trainer and Tutor said: \u201cResearch shows that up to 80% of medical advice is forgotten immediately and nearly half of what is remembered may be inaccurate \u2013 leading to confusion, missed medication, and poorer outcomes. That misunderstanding costs the NHS an estimated \u00a31 billion a year. Mirror is a support tool that helps patients make sense of their medical appointments. It captures the essential points and turns them into a clear, structured summary that\u2019s easy to follow and supports patients to take their medication correctly.<\/p>\n

Created by UK health tech company Aide Health, Mirror acts as a secure AI \u201cmedical memory\u201d, quietly listening during in-person appointments and producing a structured summary patients can revisit at any time. The aim is to tackle one of the biggest challenges in healthcare: the gap between what clinicians explain and what patients remember once they leave the consultation room. Mirror is a very specific personal integrated health record, where patients retain ownership of their health data, and there is a touch of AI magic to expand on health topics or help consider what questions they may want to ask at their next appointment.<\/p>\n

Dr Razak continues: \u201cClinicians often give a lot of information in a very short time, and it can be hard for people to take everything in, especially when they\u2019re worried or unwell. Mirror lets patients focus on the conversation, knowing the important details will be recorded accurately for them to revisit later.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mirror aims to reduce that burden by turning complex clinical conversations into simple summaries patients can re-read, share with family members, or explore further using built-in explanations of unfamiliar terms.<\/p>\n

Privacy is central to Mirror\u2019s design: audio recordings are used only to create the written notes and are deleted immediately. Patients retain full control of their information and are reminded that AI may make mistakes, with any uncertainties to be checked with their clinician.<\/p>\n

Dr Razak added: \u201cAI has already transformed the way clinicians process information. It should now be able to support patients in the same way, helping them feel more confident, more informed and more in control of their own health. If AI becomes more widely adopted, I expect we\u2019ll see dedicated training for clinicians on how to integrate these tools into everyday practice.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr Yasmin Razak is a full-time GP Partner and GP Trainer at Golborne Medical and plays a leading role in NeoHealth Primary Care Network (PCN) \u2013 a collaboration of six GP practices serving over 30,000 patients \u2013 which focuses on improving community health and tackling health inequalities across West London.<\/p>\n

As Clinical Director of NeoHealth PCN, Dr Razak has led award-winning initiatives to improve care for people with long-term conditions, including nationally recognised work supporting COPD patients during COVID-19 and transformation programmes for diabetes and hypertension management.<\/p>\n

Aide Health is a UK digital health company with a mission to make prescribed care as effective as possible. Its first product, Aide, uses conversational AI to help patients adhere to treatment, track their health, and build health literacy, while providing clinicians with real-time patient data to close care gaps.<\/p>\n

Aide Health\u2019s digital tools are already used across NHS England to support people with long-term conditions including type 2 diabetes, asthma, COPD, hypertension and chronic kidney disease. The company\u2019s innovations have been backed by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) and Innovate UK.<\/p>\n
