A student at a university in Bristol suffered stab wounds, police have said, as his death is subject to a murder investigation<\/a>.<\/p>\n

30-year-old Vijay Kumar, a student at the University of the West of England<\/a> (UWE), was found at around 4.15am on Barbourne Road, Worcester, on Tuesday, November 25.<\/p>\n

He was found with injuries which were described as serious and was taken to hospital but died later that day, West Mercia Police have said.<\/p>\n

Five men were arrested on suspicious of murder<\/a> and have been released on bail, the force added. A sixth man was also arrested on suspicion of murder but was released with no further action.<\/p>\n

West Mercia Police told BristolLive that Vijay had suffered stab wounds when he was found by police.<\/p>\n

The investigation into his death, which is being treated as a murder investigation, is ongoing and police are urging anyone with any information to contact the force.<\/p>\n

Indian media said that the student was from the North Indian state of Haryana and that his family have appealed in help repatriating his body<\/a> back to India.<\/p>\n

The family of the student issued a heartfelt tribute which said that his death “has left us devastated and has created a void in our lives”.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for UWE<\/a> said: “The university is deeply shocked and saddened by the news of Vijay\u2019s death and would like to express our condolences to his family at this incredibly distressing time.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are in touch with Vijay\u2019s family and have offered them our full support.<\/p>\n

“The university is also working with the police to support their ongoing investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a statement from Detective Chief Inspector Lee Holehouse, released on Friday, November 28, he said: \u201cOver the course of the last few days my team have been conducting extensive lines of enquiries to ascertain what happened on Tuesday morning and what led to a man losing his life.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs part of these enquiries, officers will remain on Barbourne Road over the weekend, and I would like to reassure the community that this is to continue gathering evidence and the public should not be alarmed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe five men who were arrested on suspicion of murder are now on bail and will continue to help us with our investigation.<\/p>\n

\u201cI continue to appeal to anyone who has any information that would help with our enquiries to please come forward, however insignificant you feel it may be; it could be a vital piece of information.<\/p>\n
