{"id":608940,"date":"2025-12-03T05:54:15","date_gmt":"2025-12-03T05:54:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/608940\/"},"modified":"2025-12-03T05:54:15","modified_gmt":"2025-12-03T05:54:15","slug":"mums-isolated-and-kids-unable-to-get-to-school-as-bus-horror-stories-shared","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/608940\/","title":{"rendered":"Mums isolated and kids unable to get to school as bus &#8216;horror stories&#8217; shared"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>People are being asked for their opinion on bus services in Merseyside and ideas on how to improve them<\/p>\n<p>19:24, 02 Dec 2025Updated 20:16, 02 Dec 2025<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/0_Wood-Farm-Hey-Stockbridge-Village-LiverpooljpgStockbridge-Village-Liverpool.jpg\" alt=\"Stockbridge Village, Liverpool.\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Stockbridge Village, Liverpool.(Image: Liverpool Echo)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">Mums waiting at bus stops for two hours, children who can\u2019t get to school and people cut off from other parts of the region \u2013 these form part of the \u201chorror stories\u201d of bus travel in one part of Merseyside, according to <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/knowsley\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Knowsley<\/a> MP Anneliese Midgley.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">Ms Midgley was speaking about the frustrations of her constituents and Knowsley\u2019s <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/liverpool-bus-route-infamous-decades-32951736\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">public transport problems<\/a>, as she announced a partnership with Mayor <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/steve-rotheram\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Steve Rotheram<\/a> to launch the Big Bus Survey, a community transport consultation in the borough, aimed at improving the bus network.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">The feedback from the survey will be submitted to the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority to inform its spending decisions. Knowsley\u2019s MP said: \u201cI am here at <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/huyton\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Huyton<\/a> bus station where thousands of people get the bus every single week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">\u201cKnowsley is one of the worst served areas in the whole of Merseyside when it comes to public transport, but things are looking up because this Labour government has invested \u00a31.6bn to improve our public transport, and I want you to tell me what you need from your bus service. That\u2019s why I\u2019ve launched my Big Bus Survey, in partnership with our Mayor Steve Rotherham.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">More than 10,000 residents in Knowsley use the bus network every day, and figures show 36% of households have no car, and rely on buses for getting around the region.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">As a result, Ms Midgley is asking people for ideas on how to shape future transport policies and offer suggestions on how the government\u2019s \u00a31.6bn investment should be spent in their neighbourhoods.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/0_Huyton-Bus-Station.jpg\" alt=\"Huyton Bus Station\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Huyton Bus Station(Image: Knowsley MP)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">The Big Bus Survey is a constituency-wide consultation offering residents the chance to share their experience of the bus network, and feedback on what works well and what needs to be improved.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">More pertinently, the project hopes to map out where people need to go that they currently can\u2019t, which buses are reliable, and which never show up on time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">Ms Midgley added: \u201cEvery day, people rely on buses to get to work, go to school, see their mates, go to the match, do the shopping, or get to their family who need care.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">\u201cI&#8217;ve heard plenty of horror stories from my constituents, from mums with young kids isolated from their families who can\u2019t get a bus for two hours on a Sunday, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/kirkby\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Kirkby<\/a> kids who can\u2019t get to school, people from Stockbridge Village who\u2019ve had the entire world stopped when the bus has been cancelled for days with no warning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">\u201cI want to know what your priorities are for the buses, where you want to go and when you want to travel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">Speaking ahead of the survey\u2019s launch, Mayor Steve Rotheram said this was an opportunity for people to help create a transport network fit for the future, adding: \u201cBuses are the backbone of our public transport system, with around 82% of all journeys in the Liverpool City Region made by bus every single day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">\u201cYet for far too long, passengers have been forced to contend with services that are too confusing, too expensive, and too disconnected.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">\u201cFrom next year, that changes. We\u2019ll start the process of bringing our buses back where they belong: under public control.
