{"id":609059,"date":"2025-12-03T07:13:24","date_gmt":"2025-12-03T07:13:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/609059\/"},"modified":"2025-12-03T07:13:24","modified_gmt":"2025-12-03T07:13:24","slug":"sony-accused-of-using-generative-ai-art-for-playstation-advent-calendar-promo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/609059\/","title":{"rendered":"Sony Accused of Using Generative AI Art for PlayStation Advent Calendar Promo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"scanlines\" title=\"Sony Accused of Using Generative AI Art for PlayStation Advent Calendar Promo 1\" href=\"https:\/\/images.pushsquare.com\/437885fc3d44b\/sony-accused-of-using-generative-ai-art-for-playstation-advent-calendar-promo-1.large.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/sony-accused-of-using-generative-ai-art-for-playstation-advent-calendar-promo-1.900x.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"506\" alt=\"Sony Accused of Using Generative AI Art for PlayStation Advent Calendar Promo 1\"\/><\/a> Image: <a class=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.resetera.com\/threads\/playstation-releases-advent-calendar-full-of-ai-art.1370005\/post-148349197\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PlayStation via J-Soul on ResetEra<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sony is <a href=\"https:\/\/advent.playstation.com\/rewards\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the latest organisation to be taken to task<\/a> for appearing to make use of AI generated artwork.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, this doesn\u2019t relate to a game, and is instead part of an advent calendar promotion which appears to be targeting Canadian, German, French, and Dutch gamers primarily.<\/p>\n<p>As of yet, we\u2019ve not seen any reference of it on the primary PlayStation social media accounts, or the <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.playstation.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PS Blog<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The advent calendar itself is a fairly straight forward marketing tool, encouraging you to complete simple surveys and promotional activities in order to earn tickets, which you can then spend on a raffle in order to be in with a chance of winning a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pushsquare.com\/games\/ps5\/ghost_of_yotei\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ghost of Yotei<\/a> DualSense or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pushsquare.com\/guides\/all-ps-plus-games\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>PS Plus Premium<\/strong><\/a> subscription.<\/p>\n<p>But every time you enter the raffle you\u2019ll get a free avatar every day, which appears to feature artwork generated by AI.<\/p>\n<p>While it\u2019s becoming increasingly difficult to detect AI artwork, we will say these avatars do have that kind of \u201clook\u201d to them, although there aren\u2019t any obvious telltale signs like extra fingers or anything like that.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps the biggest giveaway is the use of Japanese writing in a cyberpunk-style scene, which don\u2019t really reflect real characters at all.<\/p>\n<p>On the grand scheme of things, this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pushsquare.com\/news\/2025\/11\/embarrassing-ai-art-plagues-call-of-duty-black-ops-7-launch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">isn\u2019t as bad as<\/a> the recent examples of generative AI we\u2019ve seen in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pushsquare.com\/games\/pc\/call_of_duty\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Call of Duty<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pushsquare.com\/games\/ps5\/fortnite\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fortnite<\/a> \u2013 it is just a promotional activity, after all.<\/p>\n<p>But Sony is sitting upon terabytes of cool concept art from dozens of franchises it actually owns.
