A fixed 20mph speed camera in Cardiff will be activated this month. GoSafe states that highways authorities install fixed cameras where the risk of a collision is highest, encouraging people to drive within the speed limits and keep us all safer on the road, with another camera set to be switched on on Tuesday, December 16.<\/p>\n
GoSafe will process the offences captured by the camera scheme and use advice letters for the first four weeks once each camera is active. Never miss a Cardiff story by signing up to our daily newsletter here<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n It says: “These letters allow us to engage first and tell people the correct speed limit instead of using educational courses or prosecutions.<\/p>\n “An advice letter will only be offered to people who haven\u2019t already received one in Wales.<\/p>\n “We recognise that most people want to drive safely through their communities.<\/p>\n “However if they were unaware of the correct speed limit they may be regularly passing a fixed camera and unknowingly breaking the law.<\/p>\n “This could put people at risk of losing their licence.<\/p>\n “Using the advice letters supports our aim of making our roads safer and only using enforcement as a last resort.”<\/p>\n A 20mph speed camera will be activated on Tuesday, December 16, in Wellington Street at its junction with Wells Street.<\/p>\n GoSafe is the largest partnership of its type in the United Kingdom and is made up of 27 equal partners comprising the 22 unitary authorities in Wales, four Welsh police forces, and the Welsh Government<\/a>.<\/p>\n It is responsible for fixed speed cameras, red light cameras, average speed cameras, and mobile enforcement cameras.<\/p>\n It says its overall aim is to “make people safer on Welsh roads by reducing casualties and saving lives” by “providing education, enforcement, and engineering solutions across the roads in Wales”.<\/p>\n Get Cardiff news updates<\/strong> on your phone by joining our WhatsApp community here<\/a>.
