Sir Ed Davey quizzed Sir Keir Starmer at PMQs<\/p>\n
Sir Ed Davey, leader of the Liberal Democrats, has just been
\nquestioning the Sir Keir Starmer about the water crisis at Prime Minister’s
\nQuestions.<\/p>\n
Here is what they had to say:<\/p>\n
Sir Ed:<\/b> “Yesterday, I was in Royal
\nTunbridge Wells, where tens of thousands of people have had no water for five
\ndays.<\/p>\n
“This is now a public health emergency, and shockingly,
\nit’s the second time in just three years when South East Water have let down
\nthe people of Tunbridge Wells badly.<\/p>\n
“Parents are queuing up for bottled water for their
\nkids. Pensioners are relying on neighbours to fetch some water for them.
\nBusinesses have closed down; schools and GPs have been forced to shut.<\/p>\n
“South East Water said it will be sorted on Monday,
\nthen yesterday and today it still hasn’t been sorted. So, will the prime
\nminister convene Cobra? Does he agree that it’s time for him to get a grip of
\nthis crisis, so it is sorted?”<\/p>\n
Sir Keir: “<\/b>Can I thank him for raising this
\nreally important issue, and it is shocking for all the reasons he set out.<\/p>\n
“I too have heard South East Water say, as he rightly
\nsays, actually Sunday into Monday, Monday into Tuesday, and Tuesday into
\nWednesday, that they were sorting it – and they still haven’t sorted it. <\/p>\n
\u201cThere’s really serious consequences and we are bearing down
\non that as he would expect because it’s such a serious issue.”<\/p>\n
Sir Ed <\/b>thanked the prime minister for his reply
\nand for the actions of the water minister, but added: “I do think the
\ngovernment will need to do more because South East Water have failed so
