Red Engine, which brought Flight Club to the former Palm Sugar building opposite Chavasse Park, has lodged a bid with Liverpool Council for a “seasonal, standalone, external eating and drinking venue” at Kenyons Steps nearby.

It was revealed in 2023 how the business was to take over Liverpool’s former “most Instagrammable” venue when it took on the Boujee building. Now with Flight Club proving to be a hit with punters, the firm is seeking to expand its footprint further with a seasonal offering.

According to a planning statement made public by the city council, Red Engine is seeking to provide an external venue from the third weekend in May until the end of September each year. It would be managed by Flight Club while operating independently from the social space.

As part of the proposals, the venue could include a container bar, shed/storage building for securely putting away items, loose furniture, festoon lighting, parasols and landscaping. Bidwells, on behalf of Red Engine, said in the documents how the application is “considered to enhance the shopping environment of the centre” around Kenyons Steps through the provision of a “appropriate and attractive seasonal external food and drink venue.”

Inside the new Flight Club venue on Chavasse Park in Liverpool(Image: Liverpool Echo)

The agent said how elements of the venue were intended to be short term in nature and outside of the proposed operating schedule would be stored away. In Flight Club’s own assessment of the plans, it said: “Utilising space on the grass of Chavasse Park which is adjacent to our existing venue, we would like to operate an outdoor terrace for guests to purchase and consume food and drinks.

“The terrace has a capacity of 250 people plus staff – with a mixture of chairs and tables as well as taller bar stools around poser tables. There will be a fully functional bar & cellar installed within a converted shipping container which will be situated within the fenced area. This will be fully secured when not in operation with a locked door.”

Inside the new Flight Club venue on Chavasse Park in Liverpool(Image: Liverpool Echo)

It is hoped the site could also provide employment opportunities with an additional number of staff needed. If backed by the city council’s planning department, the business hopes to operate from May 17 until September 28 with hopes of beginning earlier in 2026.

Subject to securing a premises licence, the venue is proposed to operate from 11.30am to 10pm Sunday to Friday, and from 11am on Saturdays.
