PLANS have been approved by the City of Edinburgh Council<\/a> for a new playground on the grounds of a new Edinburgh Park<\/a> residential development.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The playground is envisioned to be another step in a \u201cmasterplan\u201d for underutilised land in the area to be converted into a private residential and mixed-use developmen<\/a>t.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This masterplan, first proposed in 2022, is an ambitious plan to convert disused ground in and around Edinburgh Park<\/a> into a vast new community. Construction began in 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The playground will be constructed on land adjacent to Lochside Way in Edinburgh Park and will feature a polygonal climbing frame attached to a slide and a few other children\u2019s play features.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Work to build almost 400 new homes on land owned by Parabola, a property developer based in Edinburgh Park, commenced earlier this year.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In addition to the homes, the development will also feature Patina, a \u00a32.4m bar, restaurant, artisanal bakery and live music venue; facilities for padel and a multi-use-games area for tennis, five-a-side football, netball and basketball as well as a water cascade, lochan and ten sculpture installations.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The playpark, which is coloured in vibrant greens and reds, is envisioned to be a crucial component to the future development, and \u201centirely consistent with the consented masterplan proposal\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The park will be constructed \u201c100 metres south of 1 Airborne Place, Edinburgh\u201d, adjacent to where future apartment complexes will be built.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Commercial property consultants Montagu Evans, who submitted the application on behalf of Parabola, provided a cover letter.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It read: \u201cThe council granted planning permission for the remaining southern phase of Edinburgh Park, which includes proposals for a high quality, sustainable and mixed use residential-led development, subject to a variety of conditions and the conclusion of a legal agreement, on 11 January 2022.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe submitted planning application seeks permission for the development of a children\u2019s playground which is intended to be delivered as a meanwhile use as the masterplan is developed.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe playground proposal will be sited adjacent to New Park Square.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Montagu Evans added: \u201cThe proposed development is considered entirely consistent with the consented masterplan proposal and consequently is considered to be supported by the development plan.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Parabola are based in the Edinburgh Park business park and own the adjacent land earmarked for redevelopment.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Parabola has been approached for comment.<\/p>\n
