Nicholas Jones, who stood for the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/newport\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Newport<\/a> West and Islwyn constituency for the Conservatives in 2024, secured third place after Reform finished runner-up to Labour&#8217;s Ruth Jones.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"walesonline\">Reform UK has since confirmed that Mr Jones, who serves on <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/pontypool\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"PontypoolLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Pontypool<\/a> Community Council, has joined their ranks and will represent the party on the volunteer-run council, which traditionally operates without party political divisions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"walesonline\">He follows Stephen Senior, who won election as a Conservative in a February by-election, in crossing the floor to Reform. The party also has representation on Pontypool Community Council through Sarah Lang, elected in the Trevethin ward during a July by-election.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"walesonline\">Mr Jones previously served as a <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/torfaen\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"TorfaenLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Torfaen<\/a> Borough Councillor for New Inn ward before being unseated at the 2022 council elections, where he came bottom of the poll as <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/labour-party\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Labour<\/a> swept all three ward seats.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"walesonline\">He retained his position as community councillor for New TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/conservative-party\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Conservative PartyLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Conservative Party<\/a> in Wales has stopped listening and has run out of ideas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"walesonline\">&#8220;In order to better represent my community and the aspirations of the hard working people of this nation, I have joined Reform UK.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"walesonline\">&#8220;To my former colleagues and to people across Wales, I ask you to join us on this journey to break up the political consensus and bring prosperity back to our left behind communities.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"walesonline\">This defection leaves the Conservatives with two representatives on Pontypool Community Council,
