A Special Celebration Night was held at City of Derry Golf<\/a> Club on Friday last when the achievements of esteemed member Naoimh Quigg were recognised and included congratulating her on her remarkable year as Lady Captain of Royal Portrush Golf Club during the recent Open Championship.<\/p>\n

A capacity crowd of club members were treated to a lite bite on arrival before being enjoying a relaxed conversation with Naoimh hosted by former captain Kevin Doherty asking the questions.<\/p>\n

Naoimh started her golfing career at City of Derry in the mid-1980s when her father Maurice was club captain. Her honours list and association with City of Derry include victory in the Ulster Championship in 2006. She also captained Ireland, and won the Irish Open. Naoimh also held the distinguished post of lady captain at her hometown club as well as at Portrush.<\/p>\n

Her extended list of achievements included the Ulster Girls Inter Provincial team; Irish Girls International team; Irish Women\u2019s Strokeplay Champion; Irish u-21 European team; English University\u2019s Team; Ulster Women\u2019s inter Provincial Team; North West Scratch Cup winner; Ulster Women\u2019s Championship; R&A Curtis Cup Selector; R&A Junior and Women\u2019s Vagliano Team Selection; and Captain of Irish Women\u2019s International Team.<\/p>\n

The affable golfer reflected on her career highlights and gave an insight into the experience of the Open Championship and the role that City of Derry Golf Club played in her golfing journey. Naoimh also had advice for up-and-coming young golfers on how they should conduct themselves, have belief and practice hard to achieve their goals.<\/p>\n

During questions, highlight of the night was her selected fourball \u2013 former Manchester United and Republic of Ireland legend Roy Keane was the first name out of the hat!<\/p>\n

Part of Friday night\u2019s celebrations also included the club\u2019s Mega Raffle with a number of winners in attendance to pick up their prizes from club captain Adrian Johnston.<\/p>\n

Acknowledging Naoimh\u2019s career and achievements for the club, Madam President Frances McLaughlin said Naoimh had given sterling service to City of Derry over many years. She also highlighted her many accolades Adrian\u00a0<\/p>\n
