{"id":612377,"date":"2025-12-04T20:53:17","date_gmt":"2025-12-04T20:53:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/612377\/"},"modified":"2025-12-04T20:53:17","modified_gmt":"2025-12-04T20:53:17","slug":"how-pierce-charles-performed-as-sheffield-wednesday-win-county-cup-clash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/612377\/","title":{"rendered":"How Pierce Charles performed as Sheffield Wednesday win County Cup clash"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Sheffield Wednesday fans have been waiting with bated breath for the return of goalkeeper Pierce Charles. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The custodian hasn\u2019t played since injuring his shoulder against Stoke back in September, and he\u2019s been sorely missed between the posts. <\/p>\n<p>Charles\u2019 injury couldn\u2019t have come at a worse time, really, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sheffieldwednesday.news\/tag\/sheffield-wednesday\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wednesday<\/a> short on goalkeeping options and eventually needing to get special dispensation to land other options. <\/p>\n<p>Joe Lumley played a couple of games, with Ethan Horvath currently acting as the number one stopper in the absence of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sheffieldwednesday.news\/tag\/pierce-charles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Charles<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Now, he looks to be on the mend, although there was a bit of a weird situation that took place as Charles made his return to action in the Sheffield and Hallamshire Senior Cup. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/GettyImages-2211537754-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Pierce Charles\" class=\"wp-image-25771\" \/>Photo by Scott Llewellyn | MI News\/NurPhoto via Getty ImagesPierce Charles makes a comeback in County Cup clash<\/p>\n<p>Charles played for 90 minutes of the clash against Stocksbridge Park Steels which was played at Hillsborough, although he was substituted before the penalty shootout. <\/p>\n<p>With his injury being a shoulder problem, perhaps there is a sense that diving along the ground five times in quick succession wouldn\u2019t have been the best thing for his arm. <\/p>\n<p>As a result, he was substituted before the shootout, with young goalkeeper Jack Phillips proving the hero by saving a penalty to guide the Owls through. <\/p>\n<p>Wednesday were held to a 3-3 draw in 90 minutes by the Northern Premier League Division One outfit, with the non-league outfit giving a strong account of themselves. <\/p>\n<p>The Owls\u2019 goals came from Cole McGhee, Devlan Moses and a long-range stunner from Jarvis Thornton. <\/p>\n<p> Should Sheffield Wednesday risk Pierce Charles at Blackburn? <\/p>\n<p> \ud83d\udc47 Join the debate; share your insight. Use the comment button on the bottom left to have your say <\/p>\n<p>   Wednesday need Charles back <\/p>\n<p>With Wednesday still in administration, Charles will be available at a cut-price deal to any potential buyers in January. <\/p>\n<p>As a result, the Owls need to get the takeover sorted and prioritise getting the very best deal for Charles \u2013 that\u2019s if they choose to sell him at all. <\/p>\n<p>Right now, Wednesday need to get Charles back between the posts as a matter of urgency, with clean sheets not forthcoming and the Owls shipping silly goals each week. <\/p>\n<p>Charles is one of the brightest goalkeeping talents in the country and it\u2019s a welcome boost for Henrik Pedersen that he came through last night unscathed, it seems. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Sheffield Wednesday fans have been waiting with bated breath for the return of goalkeeper Pierce Charles.
