{"id":612848,"date":"2025-12-05T01:54:18","date_gmt":"2025-12-05T01:54:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/612848\/"},"modified":"2025-12-05T01:54:18","modified_gmt":"2025-12-05T01:54:18","slug":"king-charles-caps-australia-trip-with-barbie-and-opera-house-bash-mozambique","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/612848\/","title":{"rendered":"King Charles caps Australia trip with \u2018barbie\u2019 and Opera House bash \u2013 Mozambique"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>King Charles III flipped sausages and admired Australian avocados on Tuesday on the final leg of his tour Down Under, a whirlwind jaunt designed to shore up support in one of his biggest realms.<\/p>\n<p>The 75-year-old regent crisscrossed Sydney on his last full day of engagements, touring housing projects in the inner city and a suburban community barbecue before a planned finale at the Opera House.<\/p>\n<p>Lifeguards from Sydney\u2019s famous Bondi Beach watched as the \u201cflexitarian\u201d king \u2014 who gives up meat and fish two days each week \u2014 turned over sausages on a smoky grill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a particular delight to see and smell all the top tucker here today,\u201d he told the crowd, paying tribute to Australia\u2019s much loved \u201csmashed avo\u201d and \u201ccab sav\u201d red wine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo thank you, everyone, for coming to join us at this \u2018barbie\u2019 today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a makeshift field nearby, the king watched as Australian working dogs competed to round up flocks of sheep.<\/p>\n<p>An Australian pub rock staple, \u201cWorking Class Man\u201d by Jimmy Barnes, blared over the speakers as Charles and Queen Camilla arrived.<\/p>\n<p>Charles started his day in the inner-Sydney suburb of Redfern, the spiritual birthplace of one of Australia\u2019s most significant Indigenous rights movements.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThats your accommodation tonight, your majesty,\u201d one of his guides joked with a smile as they strolled past a caravan parked on the campus of an Indigenous learning centre.<\/p>\n<p>It was a warmer welcome than his appearance at Australia\u2019s parliament a day earlier, when an Indigenous senator stunned assembled dignitaries by shouting at the regent to \u201cgive us our land back\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In the afternoon, the king will meet celebrated oncologists Georgina Long and Richard Scolyer as well as cancer patients at the Melanoma Institute Australia.<\/p>\n<p>Thousands of citizens of this sun-baked country get skin cancer every year, prompting Australia\u2019s scientists to pioneer a suite of new treatments.<\/p>\n<p>Charles himself was diagnosed with cancer eight months ago and remains in treatment.<\/p>\n<p>His type of cancer has not been publicly disclosed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Top gun <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Later on Tuesday, Charles and Queen Camilla will embark on what may be the centrepiece of their Australian visit.<\/p>\n<p>The royals will meet members of the public on the Sydney Opera House forecourt before surveying warships gathered in the harbour and witnessing an airforce flyover.<\/p>\n<p>It was at the Opera House in 1983 that the then-prince Charles and a 21-year-old princess Diana greeted thousands of admirers.<\/p>\n<p>It was seemingly a public triumph, but Diana \u2014 who stole the show \u2014 was later photographed bursting into tears at the event.<\/p>\n<p>Commentators would later wonder if it was one of the first public signs of tumult in their fairytale marriage.
