LEADERBOARD<\/a><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<p><strong>Scottie Scheffler debuted the brand-new TaylorMade Qi4D Driver in competitive play for the first time on Thursday \u2014 and it immediately paid off as he opened with a 6-under 66 to join a five-way tie for the lead after round one of the Hero World Challenge at Albany in The Bahamas.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Like Rory McIlroy earlier this season, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmagic.com\/players\/scottie-scheffler\" data-entity-type=\"taxonomy_term\" data-entity-uuid=\"d4998e34-4890-4951-97eb-6523a5a74aa2\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" title=\"Scottie Scheffler\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Scheffler<\/a> had previously been gaming the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmagic.com\/equipment\/drivers\/taylormade-qi10-driver-review\" data-entity-type=\"node\" data-entity-uuid=\"a0de63b4-0644-4e92-a9d6-398d84a3f5fe\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" title=\"TaylorMade Qi10 Driver Review\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TaylorMade Qi10 Driver<\/a>, which launched in January 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Neither star opted for the newer Qi35, which launched 12 months later (McIlroy tinkered but never fully switched), but the landscape looks totally different heading into 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Just weeks after both McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood switched into the unreleased <a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmagic.com\/equipment\/news\/taylormade-qi4d-usga-conforming-list\" data-entity-type=\"node\" data-entity-uuid=\"bdc1ba93-f76e-4f21-8741-68455d2a3e51\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" title=\"Three new TaylorMade drivers hit the USGA Conforming list: Here&#039;s what we know\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Qi4D<\/a>, the World No.1 decided to follow suit at his final competitive outing of 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Scheffler spent the early part of this week testing the club at Albany before committing to putting it straight in the bag at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmagic.com\/players\/tiger-woods\" data-entity-type=\"taxonomy_term\" data-entity-uuid=\"deb1f1ec-eef3-40a6-b478-21b336be3276\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" title=\"Tiger Woods\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tiger Woods<\/a>\u2019 annual 20-man event.<\/p>\n<p>The move delivered instant returns during Thursday\u2019s first round.<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>Scheffler, a six-time PGA Tour winner this season including two major championships, is chasing history this week as he attempts to become the first player to win the Hero World Challenge <strong>three <\/strong>years on the spin.<\/p>\n<p>He looked fully in control on day one \u2014 despite a closing bogey that cost him the outright lead \u2014 matching the early <strong>6-under <\/strong>mark set by Sepp Straka, Akshay Bhatia, Wyndham Clark and JJ Spaun.<\/p>\n<p>The numbers behind Scheffler\u2019s opening round underline the strong start with the new big stick.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He averaged a massive <strong>321 <\/strong>yards off the tee, ranking fourth in the field, and hit <strong>84%<\/strong> of fairways, also fourth best.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Scheffler appeared to be using an <strong>8-degree<\/strong> Qi4D, a model expected to reach retail in early 2026.<\/p>\n<p>While details on the Qi4D Driver remain tightly under wraps, early impressions inside the ropes seem glowing \u2014 at least according to the man swinging it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPretty good,\u201d Scheffler said when asked to summarise didn&#8217;t feel in my hands, so that&#8217;s typically a pretty good thing for me with the driver.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I feel something, when I look up, I want to be able to &#8212; I want it to match so today I didn&#8217;t see anything out of the ordinary, so that&#8217;s a pretty good spot to be in.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou don&#8217;t have to make anything up, I mean, if you&#8217;ve got nothing good. This better be good.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Scottie Scheffler is using TaylorMade\u2019s new Qi4D driver at the Hero World Challenge similar to Rory and Tommy.<\/p>\n<p>His, however, has a face more similar to the Qi10 than his counterparts at his request.<\/p>\n<p>It would be his first official change since 2023 if he opts to stick with it. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/nZemadgqNG\">pic.twitter.com\/nZemadgqNG<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 TrackingScheffler (@SchefflerLegion) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SchefflerLegion\/status\/1996680472831603042?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">December 4, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Scheffler had hinted earlier in the week that this was a proving-ground moment for the new driver.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, he said: \u201cTesting things out in competition is a good way of kind of seeing where you\u2019re at.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can simulate competition at home, but coming out here and playing strokeplay is always a bit different over the course of four days. I find this week to be pretty valuable.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Scheffler added: \u201cFor me so far this driver&#8217;s been a really good fit for my eye and that&#8217;s always the first test for me.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo far the performance has been good, my spin numbers have been really consistent, ball flight&#8217;s been consistent and looking forward to getting it in competition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As for any rust after having taken more than a month off since the Ryder Cup, Scheffler admitted: \u201cI felt pretty good.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below there playing, I&#8217;m just trying to shoot a score.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Scheffler then went further by revealing he never gelled with TaylorMade&#8217;s Qi35 Driver that was released in January 2025 because it did not quite match up to his numbers with the former Qi10 of January 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo last year I had a little bit of trouble getting into the Qi35 and I feel like we learned a lot throughout that process of what I like to see in a driver, the way it needs to perform for me specifically,\u201d Scheffler told reporters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGoing into this year I feel like Adrian and the whole team at TaylorMade had a really good kind of idea of what my eyes needed to see in order for the driver to be able to work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe went through a lot of different kind of options for what the face needed to be specifically for me and felt like we&#8217;re in a good spot, and then the testing was a lot simpler this time around for sure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> Article
