{"id":613288,"date":"2025-12-05T06:46:15","date_gmt":"2025-12-05T06:46:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/613288\/"},"modified":"2025-12-05T06:46:15","modified_gmt":"2025-12-05T06:46:15","slug":"lammy-refuses-to-rule-out-brexit-reversal-admitting-rejoining-eu-would-boost-uk-growth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/613288\/","title":{"rendered":"Lammy refuses to rule out Brexit reversal admitting rejoining EU would &#8216;boost UK growth&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Deputy PM joined the News Agents as he said that &#8216;our future is inextricably linked to the European Union&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>        <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"David Lammy, Deputy Prime Minister, appeared to break ranks with Labour over Brexit\" class=\"content-image\" data-image-catalogue-id=\"776303\" width=\"660\" height=\"370\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/776303\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>    David Lammy, Deputy Prime Minister, appeared to break ranks with Labour over Brexit.<\/p>\n<p>        Picture: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alamy.com\/stock-photo-london-uk-711066062.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\nAlamy<br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"standfirst\">David Lammy has refused to rule out the prospect of Britain rejoining the EU as he admitted the union holds the potential to &#8216;boost UK growth&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-text\">The Deputy Prime Minister refused to rule out reversing Brexit on seven separate occasions when speaking in an exclusive interview with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lbc.co.uk\/news-agents\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News Agents<\/a> podcast, as he insisted that leaving the EU \u201cbadly damaged our economy\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-text\">During an interview on Thursday, the Deputy PM was seen to back a growing chorus of Labour voices as he insisted that the UK should consider closer ties with Brussels.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-text\">Admitting that rejoining the customs union was not \u201ccurrently\u201d the Government\u2019s official policy, Mr Lammy did concede that the growth potential of rejoining was \u201cself-evident\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lbc.co.uk\/news\/uk\/justice-system-reform-lammy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mr Lammy<\/a>, asked whether he would like to see Britain rejoin the customs union, said: \u201cThat is not currently our policy. of our court system but insisted he wants to &#8220;bring the backlog down&#8221; amid lengthy delays.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-text\">&#8220;I&#8217;m absolutely clear, juries are important, they will always be important,&#8221; Mr Lammy told Nick, adding that the fundamental issue remains that &#8220;we need to recruit more magistrates&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-text\">It comes as the justice secretary is set to announce plans to scrap jury trials for either-way cases &#8211;
