{"id":613574,"date":"2025-12-05T10:01:14","date_gmt":"2025-12-05T10:01:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/613574\/"},"modified":"2025-12-05T10:01:14","modified_gmt":"2025-12-05T10:01:14","slug":"starmer-finally-goes-for-it-brexit-waswrong","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/613574\/","title":{"rendered":"Starmer finally goes for it, Brexit was\u201cwrong\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sir Keir has finally gone on the record in public saying that the United Kingdom must \u2018face the reality\u2019 that the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.majorcadailybulletin.com\/tag\/Brexit.html?utm_source=Inline-tag&amp;utm_medium=internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brexit<\/a> agreement \u2018significantly damaged\u2019 the economy<\/strong>, and argued that the country must continue to move closer to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.majorcadailybulletin.com\/tag\/European+Union.html?utm_source=Inline-tag&amp;utm_medium=internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">European Union<\/a> (EU) to boost growth.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cWild promises were made to the British people and not fulfilled. We are still dealing with the consequences today.\u201d The message points to a change of position in the ruling Labour Party, which was once openly pro-European but had so far avoided addressing Brexit so as not to risk losing votes, as it <strong>remains a red line for a large part of the electorate. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While the conservative right and the populists maintain their rejection of European structures, the Liberal Democrats &#8211; the third largest parliamentary force &#8211; and the rising Green Party are advocating a new rapprochement with the EU. And this is simple common sense and it is an approach which has been welcomed by the European Union, in particular <a href=\"https:\/\/www.majorcadailybulletin.com\/tag\/Spain.html?utm_source=Inline-tag&amp;utm_medium=internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Spain<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <strong>British Ambassador to Spain<\/strong>, Sir Alex Ellis, economic and political relations between the two countries have never been so strong as a result of a recent \u201creset\u201d meeting and subsequent plans agreed between the two. But how far is Starmer going to push it?
